Wonderful Hotel! Parking not so
Wonderful place to stay, parking gets full early and you have to find a spot on the street and pay

Wonderful Downtown Dublin Hotel
Our Wilder experience was outstanding. The local knowledge shared by Brian, the desk manager, was exceptional for my wife and my first visit to Dublin. The Wilder amenities were perfect for our needs including an outstanding early morning breakfast. We did have a bit of a problem using Goggle Maps to drive from the airport when tying to use the street address. Perhaps a caution should be given via the web site

Hotel Stepford
The Wilder is a beautiful and lovingly renovated building. The rooms are elegant and tastefully appointed. The common areas are full of interesting art. It is on a quiet street in a beautiful neighborhood. The staff, however, seemed over groomed. Perfection on the surface, yet something amiss just below. Take the bar for example. Picture perfect, as in, perfect in all the pictures. But one was hard pressed to get a drink. Or a dinner menu. The barman was unable to make a simple cocktail. One could order a gin and then buy a tonic, but that was the extent of it. He didn’t even have olives. Perhaps it was a language barrier? But he was uniformed and stationed at the ready. Oh well, a nice walk along the canal and there was plenty to drink and eat with the locals at The Barge. Also, we had arrived early, long before check in, so we toured around until the appointed hour, only to find one room not yet ready. (The family ahead of us, who had just arrived, were sent to their rooms without delay.) Being a splurge for the last night of our trip and my friend’s birthday, I quietly let the clerk know I was disappointed and suggested a bottle of wine in my friend’s room would be a nice touch. Instead, the manager upgraded her to a suite. Nice, but just out of sync. The vibe at this place puzzles me still.

Tiny but excellent rooms
My stay at the Wilder was terrific; I would absolutely return. It is a relatively new hotel, with very recently done renovations. My 'shoebox room' was indeed miniscule--just a few feet wider than the Queen sized bed. For two people it might be too small--I'm not sure how both would maneuver around the bed at the same time--but as I was a solo traveler and I don't much care about the size of the room, it was perfect. As the renovation was recent the room looked fantastic, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the shower had terrific water pressure from the rain shower and nice, hot water. The toilet and shower are separate, which might help a couple in the small space. The service at the hotel was excellent as well. My room was ready early when I arrived after a flight from the US; and when I checked out and asked to leave my bags so that I could walk to get my rental car and come back to pick up my things, they were totally accommodating. (There is an area outside making it easy to stop and load the car.) The hotel location is terrific as well, in a quiet residential area just about a five minute walk from the southern side of St Stephen's Green. Down the street in the other direction, less than a block, is the Grand Canal, which is a wonderful pedestrian walk.
