A nice hostel, a bit expensive and the volunteers could be nicer. But I would be back…

The place was overall charming. It had everything; a community kitchen, two swimming pools, an amazing terrace with a great view, the location was perfect, I would stay back without a question.

Disclosure is that I have only stayed in a handful of hostels and gravitate towards comfort especially on vacay. That being said Selina targeted my esthetic and the surf vibe I was seeking for the area. My BF and I had a private room and bathroom. It was not quite I had imagined from the pics. It was enclosed and had a decent amount of space but was just cement walls and floors and a thatch roof. Inside bugs were prevalent. The bathroom was tiny and not very clean but the plumbing worked well. There was no walkway or lighting to the back of the building where our room was, making it a muddy dark walk. It was nice to be tucked back in a more quiet area. Other then cleanliness the main common areas were awesome. Lovely views and books to chill. Great pool and bar with good drinks and grub. For the price I’d say it was a decent stay but left a bit of comfort out.

1. As soon as we arrived, we were saluted by the unfriendly staff under the effects of marijuana. 2. Chilaquiles for breakfast. The worst chilaquiles I have ever tried. I am sure one can find better chilaquiles in Southwest USA. Chilaquiles' salsa without tomato, seriously? 3. Room in severely poor conditions, unfinished, uncleaned. We needed to chase down the cleaning ladies to have our room clean everyday. The showered never worked properly. 4. We booked this hotel because of the "activities". We were never informed about activities, and ended up booking tours somewhere else. 5. Thursday night - nice music and drinks but the party was over around midnight, yet the DJ continued the music at least 2 more hours 6. Noisy on the Saturday (a wedding) - also noisy throughout the day for works because the hotel is unfinished 7. More partying on Sunday night - impossible to rest or sleep... we ended up moving to nearby hotel. The staff did not even ask why we were leaving or helped with luggage, perhaps because they were drunk or stunned. Perhaps Selina is a decent hotel/hostel chain elsewhere (Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, etc), but the Puerto Escondido experiment is a big failure.

If you're looking for a great community feel and a chance to mix and mingle with new people - then Selina is the best choice! They offer welcome drinks and plenty of social opportunities. On the other hand, the Wifi is bad (couldn't connect in my room) and it's very loud - people would start yelling outside my room by 6am - and the washers/dryers were right behind the wall of my room.

Excelente lugar para viajeros solos, buena ubicación, lo único es que si hay muchos moscos, y la limpieza de los baños es muy mala. pero fuera de eso las instalaciones muy bien, y muy padre el lugar!

Atmosphere is amazing, staff are great, awesome hang out areas for any kind of mood your in. Plenty of activities to sign up for if you want to. Share bathrooms are ok but I would prefer they were cleaned more often.
