Nice hotel, friendly hard working staff
The front of house staff were very welcoming and friendly, the hotel needs a bit of updating but this should be done with the retention of it's character. The thing that let it down for us was the breakfast which we felt was budget, both in presentation and in taste, although I don't think we paid a budget price for the stay. There were serving spoons caked in dried food left on the table for the duration of the breakfast each morning which we felt should have been noticed and removed along with the other areas being tidied as well. The young lad covering the breakfast and a lot of other tasks as well should not be held responsible for this however as he was working alone and covering many other duties as well. The room was adequate, perfectly acceptable and clean. We would stay again, more plus points than negative but I hope the Hotel remedy the breakfast which is important to visitors.

Lovely little stay
Lovely stay. Perfect distance and a lovely little walk in to both Windermere and Bowness. Staff all very friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Dissapointing stay
Checking into the hotel we were told we had an upgrade into the annex, (without a choice) the room was ok but not sure what the standard room would have been like. The annex is quite a walk away so not very convenient especially if using the hotel's facilities (which on reflection was a mistake) luckily the weather was good. When we booked for dinner and the guy behind the reception desk seemed a little surprised. The food was served in a conservatory and bar area and called a bistro but really more pub food, but with ambitious descriptions. My steak & ale pie was a stew served in a small Balti dish with 2 small disks of puff pastry placed on top. My wife's lightly floured fillet cod with lemon and parsley butter sauce looked like a very small battered fish when she asked where the sauce was, the waitress said it did have sauce, we asked where because there was no sign of it, she said it was sprinkled all over it, then walked away laughingly saying there is definitely sauce on it. Looking at other feedback for this hotel this issue seems to reoccur with the hotel justifying saying it is a butter sauce (to try to be helpful I copy a definition - sauce is a liquid, cream, or semi-solid food, served on or used in preparing other foods. Most sauces are not normally consumed by themselves; they add flavour, moisture, and visual appeal to a dish.) It may be better comply to the normal use of the term sauce rather than blame dissatisfied customers' for not understanding
