It has potential, but...
Things we didn't like: - Very difficult to unlock door to room. Sometimes it would take 2-3 minutes of jiggling to get the lock to work - A big pan of scrambled eggs doesn't keep for 2 hours - get to breakfast early - The claw-foot tub needs grab bars and a step to help getting in and out of. Could also use some non-slip tub decals - Our room was smaller than expected, had peeling wallpaper and is in need of a makeover Things we liked: - The price - The location - The couple running it were helpful This B&B has potential and I hope whoever owns it will make the investments needed to keep it up. The other people who were staying there seemed to be happy with their accommodations, so maybe our experience was the exception, not the rule.

The Island is beautiful, the hotel needs help
The Pine Cottage is a large wood sided home that has been converted to a hotel. The room was clean, but VERY small with no private bathroom. Positives: Lower cost than most hotels on the island. Bed was clean. Internet provided and worked well enough. Friendly staff. Relatively low cost. Negatives: Room had no private bathroom and required sharing of a central bathroom with several other rooms. Room was too small to support a queen bed, as such it had a full size bed. Air conditioner from a neighboring hotel cycles on and off causing noise. Light sleepers may have a problem with it. The hotel relies on a companion hotel to note hotel.com/trivago bookings and manually book the room. If that hotel fails to do so, as was the case with our booking, the hotel is unaware of reservations. This operations issue could be critical, if the hotel accidentally oversells on an island with a ferry deadline to return to the mainland. In our case, the hotel was not notified. While we received a room, but it was one of the several without a bathroom.

Old and quaint
This is an old hotel, which we knew, and we are OK with that. The room was small, and only offered a double bed (not queen). The only chair in the room was a wooden chair, similar to what you find in a small cafe, but there isn't room for a larger chair. The bathroom is across the hall but it was clean. Even with those negatives, we enjoyed our stay here. The staff was friendly, and the property is well kept.

Pine Cottage B&B on Mackinaw Island
Bed & breakfast needs remodeling. Hosts were nice, need to be more out-going, such as like a waitress would be to start a conversation. Price charged was a bit more than what Hotels.com had quoted.
