An old style hotel with great, inexpensive food.
The West Port Hotel is an old pub on the High Street in Linlithgow. We had a room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom upstairs above the bar area. It was a Monday night and very quiet so there was no noise either from the main road or the bar. There was nothing flash about the room and it was rather cramped with a single cupboard with a few coat hangers for our coats but no where to put our bags other than on the floor. The shower took a bit of getting used to as there was an on/off for the hot water above our bed. Once we worked out how to use it there was plenty of hot water. The room rate included breakfast and any choice on the menu was on offer. The traditional Scottish breakfast was a feast. I chose bacon and fried egg with an extra egg and it was cooked to perfection. My wife eats a very light breakfast, usually only fruit with a cup of tea. There were very nice apples but no suitable knife to cut or peel them with and no plate, only a large bowl to use. We ate dinner in the hotel. The menu offered a good range of eating options and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Each night one of the menu items is on special. I chose the home made beef pie with flaky pasty topping and vegetables. It was delicious. My wife chose the grilled fish and said it was the best pub meal she had very eaten.

The room was comfortable but when I went for dinner I was asked to go out and comeback later as they have been “very busy” and at the same time more than half of the tables were empty. (Obviously I did not go back and spend my money in a different restaurant)

Very Good8.0
Business Trip to Scotland
I have stayed here a couple of times before. OK for a business trip but unfair to compare with a Raddison or ARA or even a Holiday Inn. Nice friendly people, good bar and nice food. Rooms are small and on-suite is tiny in all rooms. Noisey as the windows are not double glazed and you are beside a busy road.
