A hidden gem!
I cannot say enough good things about our stay. The proprietor, her daughter, and the staff were so kind and welcoming — thoughtful at every turn from breakfast and nighttime baths to ensuring we and our drivers knew where we were going each day. Their hospitality and the extraordinary property helped make our time in Kyoto particularly memorable.

Unforgettable Experience
I did a lot of research in order to find the perfect ryokan and toshiharu did not disappoint. The staff are so friendly and I felt so welcome. They really deliver that classic ryokan experience that you're looking for on your kyoto trip. The location is great too because it's only a few minutes from the subway by walking. Bring something warm if you go in january, like I did, because a lot of the rooms don't have toilets, so you have to use the communal ones. I loved it because it felt like camping and the view of the garden is nice from the washroom, but it was very cold!

Amazing place with super friendly and caring staff. Beautiful house, view was fantastic, loved the bath and the collection of books in their library room. The traditional breakfast that was served to us had a lot of variety, tasted fresh and was delicious.

The staff goes above and beyond. We were immediately greeted with kindness and attention, arriving at 10:00 PM. Let alone the beauty of this Ryokan, the cleanliness is 10/10. The owner had personally introduced herself to us, the owner’s mother makes an absolutely delicious Japanese breakfast. There is many different staff members and all are respectful and accommodating. Next time I am in Kyoto it will be at Toshiharu Ryokan, again and again.

Great place to relax and recharge
We absolutely loved our stay at the Ryokan. We spent five days there, which is longer than most people do, but we wouldn't change a single thing about our experience. Their breakfasts were fantastic, both traditional Japanese and Western. The rooms were spacious and clean, with extremely comfortable mattresses and pillows. Fresh socks and kimonos were provided daily, making us feel truly pampered. With only five rooms in the Ryokan, it was quite and well-maintained. We loved the serenity of the place, the patio, and the charming library that was always open, offering lovely teas and Japanese sweets. The ryokan staff were exceptional and attentive—simply the best! The location was excellent, conveniently close to transportation and interesting things while still maintaining a peaceful vibe. We found great bars and restaurants nearby for a nightcap before bed. When we left, they gifted us a box filled with the teas we had every night in the library, it was a thoughtful gesture. Our stay was perfect, allowing us to relax and recharge. We even enjoyed a massage one day, with the masseur coming right to our room! We couldn't have asked for a better experience!
