Decent budget hotel for downtown location
Friendly check-in staff, good location, clean, low rates (as compared to other downtown properties). Everything is small and compact - rooms, halls, and elevator. Bed and pillows aren't great, but tolerable if only staying one or two nights. If you stay in DC a few times a year and you're used to a hotel in the downtown area with larger rooms, more staff, and more amenities, you'll be disappointed. I'll stay here again for short stays only if I have no other options in the area that fit my small company's budget.

Great place for not much money
I need to find an inexpensive place to stay that was in downtown DC and convenient to where i was going. The hotel must all expectations. If you're looking for all the amenities of a fancy hotel, this isn't it. But if you need a good place to sleep that's close to everything, this is the place. The bed was comfy and a great shower.

Great Location- Renovated but Aging Property
When I entered from the street and carried my suitcase down the flight of stairs adorned with a worn-out, damp towel I knew this stay was going to leave a lot to be desired. After three nights at the Architect I can say this: it was clean enough, but hardly comfortable. The room itself was not spacious, but certainly adequate and the exposed brick wall was nice. The bathroom was large, had been renovated and featured a rainfall shower head. However, the laminate floors were a bit unforgiving on the feet and contributed to a general lack of comfort. The building is very old and it would probably take a total gut-job in order to bring this antiquated property up to modern standards. The elevators were small and slow, and the word shabby comes to mind when thinking about the lounge area just off the lobby. I took the ice bucket from my room and went in search of an ice machine, but couldn't find one. I asked at the front desk where the fitness room was only to discover that they do not have one. When I asked if the hotel had negotiated any deals with local gyms (which are in close proximity) so that we could use their facilities (which is what other, older D.C. hotels have done) I was told that the hotel never got around to following up on that and I just needed to go visit the gyms and talk to them about a day pass. The hotel is in a great area--short walk from restaurants, bars, etc. I will be back in DC, but never to the Architect.
