Like staying at a good friend's house
This is just a regular house in a regular quiet neighborhood. When the description says no frills, it means no frills. You are given your private room, with towels to use and there is soap and toiletries in the bathroom if you're into sharing. There are pots and pans you can use to cook. You can do laundry but have to buy your own detergent. There is no staff on site, there is nobody to clean up after you and make your bed, so you need to clean up after yourself. You are sent a message through the hotels.com website giving you your room number and access code. Everyone has their own room with their unique code, but there is only one bathroom. I'm the anti-social type but I was still really comfortable here. I was here for 5 days and saw/interacted with maybe 3 people in passing (4 people if you include who I believe was the owner that was cleaning) Only issues I had with the place was the bed was really firm so it was hard to fall asleep the first night and the house has wooden floors so when you're going to the bathroom the floor creaks really loud... but that makes it easy to know when the bathroom is occupied. Also after you book you are charged almost immediately so make sure you are sure before you book it, since it's non-refundable. Best thing about the place is it's quiet, cheap, right down the street from the SkyTrain, and in walking distance to restaurants and a shopping center. I'd definitely book again.

Interesting setup
The place is a single-family house modified to rent rooms to different parties. It's nice and clean. However, the picture on the website is NOT the house but the next-door neighbors. Moreover, we reserved a room with a phone on record. When we arrived, we called the owner with a different phone with no answer. The next-door neighbor helped us by calling the owner to obtain the access code to get into the house and the room. We never met the owner, but then everything worked out afterwards. They also have the washer and dryer out in the backyard if you need to do laundry. Overall, this is a good place to stop over. We may want to stay next time but will sure use the same phone number to reserve the room.
