Quick trip with my young sons
Spent a couple of days here with my young sons. It was always just going to be a base as we were doing lots of activities. The grounds are lovely, great location, even the kids mentioned how nice the views were and how nice it was to see the waterfall from out room. My boys (aged 8 and 4) enjoyed a walk through the woods up the hill behind the hotel next to the waterfall, and also having the lake on the doorstep for them to play in. The room was as expected, and the staff were well organised, also in terms of covid, we had toilets close to the room and a designated shower just for our room which is clearly signed. Its a short drive into Keswick Centre if you shops, bars and activities. My only gripe is that they advertise free parking and wifi. Great, however on arrival they said wifi is only available very weakly in the reception area and nowhere else in the hotel, so I dont see this as a selling point. I know its not necessarily that kind of trip but wifi in the room on a night would be helpful especially when there is no phone signal either. At the same time, it wouldnt stop me going back.

Friendly and excellent value
Lovely hostel in an old Georgian mansion overlooking Derwent Water. Basic amenities and perfect place to stay for walkers. Clean. Comfortable. Great breakfast. Simple bar. Hostel has large groups of school children - can be noisy! Fortunately we were at the other end of the building!
