The House of Edward, Ghent
Comfortable and modern hotel. No elevator!
Very nice hotel. No reception: everything done via mails or intercom connection to some center. But it works. Other notes: Plus: good heating; very comfortable bed and bedding. Good shower. Minus: Two stories hotel, no elevator and narrow staircase. If this is not a problem for you - it's a great place. Worth noting: - The TV in the room is KODI TV - not cable. We did not really try to see if it works well.

Beautiful place, great location
The remodel of this old building is stunning. Modern meets rustic and very cozy. However, the “simple self check in” is not simple. Maybe they’re still working out the kinks. It was a bit of a pain, but the call box people were very kind, prompt and helpful.

Great Place to stay in Ghent
Fabulous location. Our suite was modern, light and airy, with a kitchenette.

The House of Edward, Ghent
I was in Ghent for a business trip and had the option of staying in a more expensive hotel but I chose "The House of Edward" based on good reviews online. The overall stay was very good. The check in was smooth. I got a number code on my email about a week before check in and the number worked. The staff was present at check in and helped me with my luggage because the room was on third floor (no elevator). The stairs are narrow and would be difficult for very large suitcases. Despite warning from other reviews that there is no front desk in this hotel, I found that hotel staff was present most of the time in office/vending area. The service was satisfactory with change of sheets/towel every other day and the manager kept asking if I needed something whenever I saw her in the lobby, which gave a homely feel to the stay. The location is very good. It's to the left of Friday Market and pretty close to the canals. This separates you from the noise of night revelers and still keeping you in the vicinity of all the action. There were only two things that made me feel like I should have stayed in the "Ibis Ghent Opera Centrum" that was offered to me: 1. Ibis is directly on tram station (Saavnstrat) whereas HOE is about 8 min walk from (Gravensteen) tram stop. 2. There is no AC in the room (not sure if Ibis had one) and it got really hot one night so I opened the windows. That was a bad idea because I was surrounded by some pesky mosquitoes and lost the sleep that night.
