Great place to stay
The Bettyhill is the only hotel in the small town of Bettyhill. It has a fabulous location on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea and a lovely beach. The hotel is old, but our room and bathroom was newly remodeled and spacious and fabulous. The room had a king bed and therefore was a little squashy but otherwise fine. The bed was really comfortable. We stayed the night of the Bettyhill gala so we got noise from the public bar, but that would be unusual. The restaurant was great for dinner (there aren’t other choices in town that we saw) and breakfast. Service in the restaurant was quick and friendly and not obtrusive.

Must Stay!
Bettyhill staff Sarah, Carl and Carly were the best! Friendly and very helpful! Enjoyed talking to local football legend Tommy. Food was delicious and our room was spacious and offered the best view in the place! Wish we could have stayed another night!

Port in a Storm
There is little choice of places to stay up this far north. There are guest houses and B&B places that are somewhat iffy. The hotel is old with paper thin walls so we could hear our neighbors like they were in our room. The dinner and service were fine in the dining room. The weather was rainy and extremely windy and the hotel was drafty on the sea side. The room was clean with new mattresses and updated bathroom and furniture. I think they are trying to make improvements but it will never be a highly rated hotel.

Bettyhill, a great find on the Scottish far North
We planned to spend only one night at the Bettyhill Hotel, but a flat tire that took the Avis rental car company two days to replace kept us for a second great day with the Bettyhill Hotel folk. It is a fine place to spend a night, two nights, or a week or longer. The hotel itself is fabulous, especially if you are assigned Room 1, and the restaurant is exceptional. The same goes for the staff, from the owners to the maids, but especially the Front Desk man and general all-purpose person, Chris. He is one of the most cheerful and efficiently helpful people we have ever met, and we have traveled every continent except Antarctica. The village, the seashore, and the Naver River all add to the experience. The bar nightly hosts many passersby, and a colorful assemblage of locals. The small country store should not be missed for its sandwiches and odd assortment of supplies, including Scotch Tape to keep our map together, and Post Office to mail any number of its selection of postcards.
