Great stay
For me this was a perfect stay... I was in Iceland for 4 nights to basically see as much as possible with Reykjavík as my base, meaning I was setting off early each morning and arriving back late so a bed and a wash in a clean quiet environment was all that was required. The pods were great, with mine having a TV, mirror, 2x USB charging points and a control panel with buttons for lighting and air con, the door slid shut to give privacy from other guests and a small locker was provided at the side of the pod that was big enough for me to store my smaller bag securely! Staff were always on hand at reception and both check in and out was quick and easy! There was also a kitchen which I didnt use and a social area with TVs and a bar! To access the hostel it has a rotating door in between VW and Mitsubishi car dealerships you then have a lift on the right hand side and stairs in front of you, you will then need to go to the second floor where the hostel is located, there is a business of some kind on the first floor so just keep walking. One thing I will mention with the pods, the sliding doors aren’t the quietest to open and close so for me when I was leaving or coming back I was conscious that I was maybe waking people up unintentionally. Also if you are in a bottom pod and have someone above you, when they open their pod door it may sound like your door is being opened causing you to **** yourself if you’re asleep haha! But that is a minor thing for people to note.

Adventurous, unique, fun experience.
The pods are unforgettable, and the place seems to be keeping them clean and welcoming. I was in the room with the most beds, which were a lot, but it worked out all right. The second night was a bit more challenging, as both I and others had to leave very early, so there was the noise of comings and goings -- but more surprisingly, the noise of a loud snorer. Nothing one can do about that, but it was rather surprising how loud it was for sleeping, even with earplugs in. (And I sleep with someone who snores!) Being on an upper bunk was possibly not as easy as if I'd been on a lower, so consider which experience you want. The free 15 minute VR experience (I chose google earth to see Iceland) was really neat, though I was not able to navigate it terribly well (kept getting stuck in the matrix of outer space, under the earth's surface LOL). Travelers are generous in leaving some food for common use, and you can add yours when you're done too; there was a nice feel of community in this hostel, and of politeness / thoughtfulness (e.g. most people not talking within the hostel rooms, and not making noise with bags, etc. -- even during daytime hours). Grocery store across the street was great; hours are 9 am to 9 pm. I walked about 26 miles in 2 days, and this hostel is very well placed for being a bit out of town (so quieter), but not too far. The creative nature of those who imagined and designed the hostel is to be commended. Note, the sun doesn't set, so room "view" not needed!

Good 6.0
Great idea with huge potential for improvements
The concept of some privacy without your own room is nice Good breakfast worth the price Nice lounge to eat breakfast and socialize in Friendly personnel However this hostel has issues. Pods at least in the 24-bed I stayed at are of cheap plastic and very flimsy. There are severe technical problems with pods and locking system, this must be corrected for at least me to take this place seriously. Unlocking the pod with the key worked only sporadically, but this did not matter as they can easily be opened without a key from the outside (the latch is easily pushed in with a finger). However they have the potential to lock one in from the inside, talk about shoddy design. Panel electricals (usb and outlet and clock) worked sporadically at best. Cleanliness of bathroom facilities unfortunately sub-par Very noisy in rooms due to pod mechanicals, no real noise isolation No toilet inside dorm room and if the pressure mounts during the night, you have to deactivate the pod and go out in the corridor. Potential here is to forget the key-card in the half awake sluggishness and lock oneself out from the dorm. Not really the space station it wants to be. Dont get me wrong it was not all bad but I'd definitely check the availability of other hostels in the area as well

One of the best hostels
The service and amenities were great. They offer breakfast for about $15 including coffee. The common areas are a lounge, kitchen, VR game room, bath/toilet, and laundry room. The lounge has two large TVs (Each pod is equipped with a TV as well.) and a few card games. The kitchen has a refrigerator, pantry, stove, sink, and tables and chairs. Laundry is about $9 for one load of wash and dry. It takes about 4 hours. The shower always has Garnier shampoo bottles and other stuff - assuming other people left behind at the end of their trip. The bathrooms are outside of the rooms so every time you have to go to the toilet, you have to walk out of the room. It didn't bother me until one of the girls in my room started locking the door all the time. I got locked out a couple times. I had keys but I don't sleep with the room key. After that I carried the room key all the time. The room has a locker that can fit carry-on suitcase. It locks automatically once closed and open it with pod key card. The pod has a small safe as well. You can keep your phone and camera but nothing bigger. Overall very satisfied.

First time in Iceland, and my first time trying to stay at a Hostel. Galaxy Pod was my first and only choice because I still enjoy my privacy when sleeping; the drapes and having my own little space is A MAJOR PLUS! It is also so cool and comfortable. I had everything I need, from TV(though this is not a major need for me as I was out most of the stay), USB ports, and a small safe for my jewelries that I take off when sleeping. I arrived extra early and they already have my pod ready in less than an hour after I arrived. Reception is very excellent, and friendly! They made sure that my stay with them is fantastic. Kitchen is clean, fellow travelers knows how to keep the place clean as well, and I saw a couple staff cleaning up the kitchen from time to time. Washrooms are excellent, clean, and have ample of necessities such as qtips, toilet papers, they have floss too!, hand soap and paper towels. There is also a little spot where other travelers leave some other feminine needs from shampoo, make up wipes, the works! All in all, I definitely enjoyed my stay here, and I have been recommending this place to my friends who are also planning to visit Iceland on a budget since I got back. I am definitely staying at this place again in the mere future when I come back to visit Iceland. Keep it up, Galaxy Pod Hostel staff! :D
