Scottish Hospitality
The Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The beds were comfortable, the only drawback was a lack of soap in the toilet to allow us to wash our hands.

Good Base
The Caledonian was a good base for Leven and the Fife coast. It was clean and comfortable with beds that are a step up from the major chains. The staff were very helpful but could have done with cheering up a bit!

In need of update to bedrooms, but staff excellent
We have stayed in this Hotel before and knew what to expect. It was convenient as our visit was to see family and friends. It is in need of an upgrade, particularly to bedrooms, but in saying that, the bedding was spotless, the room was clean, and the bathroom though dated was very clean. The towels were changed every day of our 4 day stay and they were nice white fluffy towels. When we requested extra pillows they arrived promptly. Tea and coffee making facilities were adequate. The Tv was far too small for the room, we have bigger computer screens!! We had breakfast one of the mornings and that was enough!! But the icing on the cake in this Hotel is the staff. They are friendly, helpful and very professional. So come on owners, give this lovely old lady a bit of TLC as it is in a great location and a very short distance to St Andrews so, I am sure it would be used by people attending opens etc as staying in St. Andrews is a very costly experience.

Good value.
Good value for our 2night stay. Room was spacious enough. Bed was big and comfortable. Sufficient storage. Hot water was HOT. WiFi was erratic. Good location for shops and transport. Beach and coastal walkway were less than a few minutes by foot. Staff were friendly and helpful. The pub restaurant attached was much the same as so many others nowadays. Breakfasts available, likewise. It was a good base for doing visits to surrounding towns and villages etc .

Decent basic hotel let down by some staff
Mixed experience: room, bedding and towels clean. Basic room could benefit from redecorating but that's just personal choice, carpets throughout could do with being replaced. Most staff including reception and those serving meals were friendly BUT girl who took the food and drink order was offhand and was disinterested in our complaints about the taste of one of the wines we ordered. Furthermore when I asked to see the price list mentioned in the drinks menu she was again dismissive saying it didn't exist and smirking when I showed her the drinks menu. When I asked if I was supposed to ask for the price of every drink in the gantry she said yes and smirked when I told her her manner was appalling. We had booked room only but was advised we could pay for breakfast. Next morning there was a misunderstanding about this so we went to a local farm cafe instead. Never again will we stay or eat at the Caledonian Hotel.
