The noisy main road.
Requested for a room not facing the main road, yet the family rooms all face the main road which is opposite a school. The rooms are not fully sound-proof, large vehicles can still be heard and if you stay on the weekdays, the school bells are the worst! Despite the request, they only gave me 5th story, as any floor higher have to pay extra. But I am only wanting a higher floor to be further away from the noisy road. I paid for the family room yet, they only face the main road. Really angry at such a condition. Another issue which I was very disappointed, was that we hanged the room service sign at 1pm, but came back at 11pm, the room wasn't even done. Called the front desk, they only mention to me the housekeeping staff is only available after 7pm. So even I want towels had to wait till then. I mean 1pm is not very late, why there were no rounds checked by the housekeeping staff? If it is 2pm onwards, I would understand I should have called for house-keeping. For such a high price that I am paying, would really appreciate the better effort. As for the room, I love the room, is super spacious. Just there aren't enough hanging racks for towels, and every item in the family room was suited for 2 people, that isn't what a family room is about. It should be at least for 4 people. Plus the worst, they have no tissue box available since my previous trip I feedback about it, still no tissue box. This is the first accommodation that I stay in with no tissue box in the room.

Deceptive advertising, will not stay again
We booked a family suite, but beware that you are NOT actually getting two bedrooms and two beds. The second bed is in the living area, and there is only one connecting toilet with access from the room and the hall. When we complained to the reception that this is DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING (because in the pictures it shows a SOFA where the second bed in the living area is), we were told that there are NO OTHER FREE ROOMS in the hotel because it is fully booked. But when we went to the reception to complain, there were magically rooms available for walk-in customers who had just come in. When we confronted him with the fact that rooms are still available for sale on Expedia and other websites, we were told that there were actually empty rooms but those rooms were UNCLEANED. He lied through his teeth and there was ZERO service recovery. When his manager (who was off duty) finally called us two hours later, we were offered a swap of rooms to one with two bedrooms, but still one toilet. In the end we booked another standard room on the hotels.com. The room comes with kitchenette, fridge, utensils and a sink (although we never cooked). There is only one soap dispenser in the toilet, no hanging racks for towels, no bedroom slippers, and floor was dirty. The bedsheets had a strange smell, hair and was creased from when we checked in, making us doubt if the sheets were really new. There was constant traffic noise and no windows. Will not recommend and will never stay again.

Modern Spacious Suite
Hotel check in/out was fast. But hotel does keep 500 RM as deposit while checking in. Hotel is close to gurney which has all shopping malls. But nothing much near hotel except few bakeries and coffee shops. Hotel doesn't have any dining facilities, breakfast can be done in the shops below. For more dining options , a short taxi ride of 5 RM to gurney is required. Hotel lobby between lift and room was dark and had a strange smell. May be because there is not much ventilation. Suite was spacious and can accommodate up to 4 adults. Rooms were well designed with basic amenities like iron, microwave, utensils. AC was working fine. Most days , the Wifi didn't work that well. Safe locker is inside the bathroom which is a strange design. Bathroom is big and everything worked fine. Suite wooden flooring is slightly sticky. Room service was done daily without any flaws. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who want to stay in a modern well designed, fairly new suite. Only cons would be no dining facilities , swimming pool and not walkable to gurney. But a short taxi ride can bring you to gurney paragon mall. There is not much to do near the hotel, so be prepared for a taxi ride if you are travelling with elderly. But hotel suites are really well spaced, designed and comfortable.

Traveling with Family - Overall pleasant
I traveled with my 4yo and three other adults for this trip. It was a good choice staying at Tropics 8 as it is located at a convenient area, about 10minutes by car to Gurney Drive. The suite was spacious and relatively clean. There are bakeries/cafes and local stalls (open after 6pm) just downstairs, so there is no lack of food options. My only complaint is that the walls are very thin and I can hear the next room occupants talking, laughing, flushing the toilets etc. I am sure this is not the first time the property has received such feedback on the thin walls. It would have been nice if the staff have allocated us a quieter room on the higher floors away from the larger occupancy rooms seeing that we were traveling with a child. Overall, a pleasant stay.

Pleasurable stay during soft opening
I stayed at Tropics 8 Suites in March 2017 during its soft-launch period. I experienced some glitches, such as a faulty air-conditioner, a broken door-latch and poor drainage in the shower area. As the management had explained earlier that some things are not completely in tip-top condition during this soft-launch period, I found the shortcomings still tolerable. When I called the Technician to get the broken door-latch fixed, the staff was very patient and tried his best to fix the problem. The design and vast space of the suite made it a comfortable experience to stay here. There were many cupboards for storage space within the suite. The vicinity of the hotel is serene, and we were treated to nice hilly views of Penang from our corner suite. However, there may be a need to plan ahead for parking, due to the limited parking spaces that the Hotel can currently offer. We were fortunate enough to be given a parking pass despite the high customer volume that week.
