You get what you pay for....
The good: This hotel is in a good location, close enough to walk to many tourist destinations but at the edge of Hells Kitchen to experience the "real" New York. There is a decent restaurant in house where we had breakfast a couple of mornings at a fair price. The rooms were clean and large which is a nice perk but sparsely furnished. The staff was always pleasant and helpful. The not so good: This is an older building that really could use updating. Finishes are all dated and tired. The lounge gets fairly busy in the evenings, drinks were a bit expensive and there was always a strangely loud mix of latin flavor pop music playing in the background, seemed a bit annoying and odd for the clientele. The ugly: Apparently in at least this old building the heating system can only either heat or cool but not both in a given season. We visited during the last week of April and due to some warm weather earlier in the month, the system had been switched to cool mode. Unfortunately, it was cold and wet outside most of the week and therefore cold in the room. I called the desk and complained a couple of times but was told there is nothing that can be done. My wife wanted to check out and find another hotel to get warm. Not wanting to deal with changing hotels I walked a couple of blocks to a small local hardware store, bought an electric space heater and solved the problem. All in, not a horrible experience if the price is right but I'll probably look elsewhere next trip.

Nice hotel close to Columbus Circle
I would stay there again, but there is no refrigerator inside the bedroom and the swim pool is closed until the end of May.
