Friendly and charming
Staff were very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the dinner and breakfast. I stayed at another more expensive ryokan in Gero that provide fancy 'kaiseki' cuisine. That wasn't half as good as the food here, I thought. The single room was a bit small (fine), but it had a kotatsu (japanese heated blanket table) that I've only seen in cartoons. It was so charming and warm. As a solo traveler, the room was fine. The common spaces felt homey and inviting. They have morning shuttles that you take to the train station at around 8am, 9am, and 10am. Overall, my favorite hotel stay in Japan. Recommend!

My favorite stay in Takayama
A true cultural experience for those not from Japan. The half board dinner at night was a ten star WOW!! The staff were welcoming and spoke enough English to accommodate us. They even allowed us to leave our car parked all day after checkout time. If your travels take you to Takayama, staying here is a must! Convenient location and is so traditional most of the other guests were Japanese.

Japan ryokan
This ryokan was friendly, had good food and provided everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Easy to walk to the local restaurants.

What an amazing place. This was the first Ryokan we stayed at where we had to sleep on the floor and use public showers. We thought we would be uncomfortable with this but it turned out to be one of the best place we stayed at for our 20 day Japan travel trip. Everyone were so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The outdoor onsens were relaxing.
