A quick one night stay
Overall my stay was nice. The staff were friendly and knew English and gave me an upgrade, which was appreciated. The bed was a bit hard, but if you’re staying for a few nights it should be fine. It’s close to food, so you won’t go hungry. Please take note the ATMs at the PVG airport do not accept foreign cards, so make sure you have cash to change (45RMB fee) or change some ahead of time.

Valued for money
It was a great experience staying in the Phoenix Hostel. $14 for one night in a shared room, but you will get pretty helpful service, walking distance toward local restaurants and most places of interest, and clean bathrooms and interesting roommates. Hope I can stay here too when I come back to Shanghai in the mid of July.

Good overall budget hotel with nice rooftop bar
The hotel is a really nice and clean, the staff at the front desk was really nice and helpful about what's around the area when we were hungry late at night and heading out the next morning about where to head. There's lots of good local food very close and it's not to far from the walking street either, nice budget hotel. The rooftop bar looked really nice but it was chilly the day we were there so we didn't want to sit outside but I would of loved to in better weather. My only 2 little complains are the bathroom setup is a little different, maybe it's me being from the us but it's just a glass door going to the bathroom so no privacy in the room going to the bathroom, it's half frosted glass so can't see much but a little different but not to big a deal. Also like I read on some other reviews the bed was pretty hard but for one night on a layover it was a good hotel and I'd go there again if I did another layover.

Everyone has a diferent experience!
Is a bit hard to review this place. First the positive, The area where the hostel is located is great cuz you have lots of places to eat and is 2 metro stations near by. The hostel was clean n nice and it has a roof terrace.the room was nice and spacious and clean. BUT, here are my negatives points with this place.... the bed was horrible, extremely hard plus it has a bump in the middle that made it very uncomfortable to sleep. Also the room smell really bad, sometimes worst than others. I was wondering where the smell come from cuz the windows were close and the hotel was super clean. Then i realize that the smell comes from the drains in the bathroom, is all the gases coming back up. While the bathroom door was close the smell wasn’t much but at soon you open the door the smell will take over the entire room. It is sad cuz the place is great. Maybe was just my room ?!?!?! Would i stay again ???? Difficult to answer, the hostel n the location were great but the bed and the smell were a disaster.
