Flanders Hotel, Bruges - August 2019
Stayed here for a weekend break in August 2019. The hotel is conveniently located for access to the city centre and attractions - took about a 5-10 minute amble. All of the staff we dealt with were incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel itself was very quiet, and we did not experience any issues with noise. The rooms and communal areas were very clean, tranquil and well appointed. The car park is very small, and access can be a bit of a challenge if you wish to park there - although there were available spaces there for the duration of our stay. However, if you are happy to park in a local multi storey car park, it would be up to E10 a day less expensive. There is an indoor pool, which we were lucky enough to have to ourselves; which is just as well as it is very small. We were initially disappointed that there was no restaurant at the hotel - aside from serving breakfast - though as stated, it was a short stroll to the local amenities - and with the selection of restaurants in Bruges, we were glad to have had to make the extra effort! Breakfast, though, was VERY overpriced and when we visited, they had run out of bread, bacon and quite a lot of other key staples! Highly recommend taking breakfast outside of the hotel, as E17 for one sausage and a cup of coffee seemed extreme! The rooms were perfectly well equipped, but could have done with a few finishing touches to match the boutique hotel price tag and style.

This is not a 4 star hotel
Good location, but not what was expected from a four star hotel. This is more like a Travel Lodge. The hotel doesn’t have room service, the staff aren’t helpful and the bathrooms are dangerous for the elderly. We had 3 rooms booked and my mother fell in the bathroom in her room, I went to reception to explain what happened and ask if we could have an extra hour in the room to let my mother rest, my request was refused and the staff didn’t even ask if my elderly mother was ok or if there was anything they could do to help. This experience of Bruges was disappointing due to a very poor experience at the hotel, there are much better places to stay, so don’t risk being let down by this hotel, it could mean the difference between a great trip or one you can’t wait to end. On a last note, the double beds are all single beds pushed together and they are not comfortable.

Exceptional 10.0
Comfortable hotel, perfectly located.
We had a fantastic stay in this very comfortable hotel in a perfect location for walking to all the key sites in Bruges. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, including arranging bikes with a child seat which were waiting for us when we woke up on the second day. The setting is lovely with a secluded outside terrace for the bar and restaurant. Our daughter loved the fish pond and the little swimming pool (don’t expect to get very far swimming lengths!). The room was a decent size with plenty of space to accommodate the cot bed, and the queen size bed was very comfortable. Only grumble was the thinness of the walls. The bathroom was perhaps in need of a little updating but it was clean and warm. Breakfast was pretty standard and we could have done with it starting maybe half and hour earlier. No real complaints though - would definitely recommend this hotel.

Very Good 8.0
Hotel in good position. Rooms are very dark. Hotel painted brown in most areas. Very clean and staff friendly and helpful. We had a problem initially because no bath in bathroom. Rooms were advertised as bath with shower over. Had to insist on change of room as bath essential for pain relief and ended up having to pay additional 20 euros per night which I haggled down from 30 but felt I shouldn't have had to pay. Hotel in most expensive area so quite a walk to cheaper food. Receptionist did advise us when we arrived about this. Pool tiny but clean. No food room service and we didn't have breakfast in the hotel but it did look nice.

Excellent and less than excellent
Of course the location is fabulous. The hotel is cozy enough, with en excellent bar area. The pool was a big plus, but it closed early so we could not use it. The key to the room did not work, and when we asked to change the room, we were told that there is no similar room available. Literally, someone from the reception had to come to open the room each timeThe telephone did not work, so it was impossible to do a wake up call. However, the night worker at the reception was fabulous, courteous, warm, well wishing, woke us up by knocking at the door. The recommendations fo restaurant and our brief visit were outstanding.
