HOSHINOYA Tokyo, Tokyo
A unique and amazing experience that felt like so much more than a standard hotel stay. No detail was overlooked - from the room design down to the little tea room snacks. The staff were kind and wonderful. Make time for the hot springs. Try the onigiri and miso breakfast.

Very Good8.0
This was our 2nd stay @ the Hoshinoya. We came back because we loved it so much the first time. It's located close to the Otemachi Train Station which makes it easy to get around, but the surrounding area is more financial/ businesses. For the most part, the hotel staff is attentive and very helpful and nice. We did have a weird encounter, typically the staff greets you upon arrival to the hotel and they do not let outside guests into the hotel. When we arrived home on Saturday (we were out late, 3am) there were a ton of people hanging out in the lobby - two that looked like they were drunk or on something else laying on the floor, a girl and two men emerged from an area which is usually for employees - the girl was half undressed. My husband and I were so off put by the experience, that we actually called the front desk to complain once we got back to our room and also inquired about it the following day. When you are paying a lot of money to stay at a nice hotel, you just don't expect to see that kind of riff raff.

Oasis in the middle of the city!
Beautiful hotel - loved the traditional touches and the onsen was excellent. Great subway access and good F&B around. A bit quiet over the weekend so food options were less available.

Everything about Hoshinoya is Great. Staff 5.0, Food 5.0 (with reservations about rigidity of booking meals, being unable to cancel them, etc., that part of the Food Service is very, very restrictive.) Also, #KaesekiDiners are absolutely, uniquely fabulous 5.0 ***** are not enough, but #ObentoStyleBreakfast not as incredible, though still great) Rooms 5.0 (but, be warned you cannot invite guests to your room Area/Scene 5.0 Fabulous, Onsen 5.0, Oyu 5.0 (unlike most traditional onsen I've visited, there doesn't seem to be quite the level of staffing in the actual onsen areas of Hoshinoya, and since most of the guests (like me) are gaijin (foreigners) that can leave for messy areas within the onsen. As am a veteran #OnsenSenmonka I know how to use and leave an onsen in perfect condition ...but many gaijin do not know the ropes, so ...)
