Spectacular and very Japanese.
Absolutely perfect if you wish an immersive experience in traditional Japanese culture. Comfort and service are very strong. Bath and spa are spectacular. Luxurious but not for anyone who likes American hotel groups, even high end ones. Besides liking Tokyo I’d return just to stay here.

Gracious ryokan in the heart of Tokyo
I spent four lovely nights at Hoshinoya. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, the beds are super comfortable, the common area is stocked with an assortment of tasty snacks and hot and cold beverages. Soaking in the peaceful onsen each evening was the perfect antidote to the crazy kinetic energy of Tokyo. On the negative side, I knew that only guests are allowed in rooms, but was assured that non-hotel guests could come to the 2nd floor reception area. However when my nephew tried to meet us there he was denied entry even to the reception area. Also, do not expect staff to make dining recommendations. They did not seem knowledgeable about nearby restaurants.

Rest in Tokyo
This is the second time we stayed at Hoshinoya Tokyo. This will be our choice of hotel while we visit Tokyo from now on. The room is spacious, quiet and clean. Service is wonderful. Staff is friendly and courteous. Subway station is within 5 mins walking distance.
