Laid back Abilene motel
It was actually a nice stay (just one night). We loved Abilene, but the hotel was not up to snuff. The desk clerk was inexperienced, so service was less than perfect. The room was hot, so I asked about the air conditioning. He said he couldn't turn it on because it had not yet been serviced after winter. (It was 78 degrees that day!) Eventually, we got air, but then they left it on, even when the temperature dropped overnight. (It was freezing!) The facility is old,and well worn. There was no breakfast. It's well off the beaten track, and about a mile from restaurants and stores.

A Diamond indeed!
My wife doesn’t like to stay at Motels, but there weren’t a ton of options. My kids sensed her unease, and weren’t too keen on our stay at the Diamond Motel. However, we pulled in, friendly and courteous staff/owner, got the key, opened the door and the kids said “Wow! This is awesome!” And it was. It was a mini two-bedroom apartment, couch, TV, two beds, full kitchen. We didn’t use everything or even plug in the refrigerator, but the place was great, comfortable and clean, and made for a nice overnight stay. Abilene was great and the Eisenhower Museum/Library well worth the visit (the reason for our trip) and the Diamond Motel couldn’t have been nicer. Thanks!!
