Beamish Mary Inn
It is a modest inn and if you are looking for glamour probably not for you but, we stayed to exhibit at the museum, location perfect and the cleanliness and décor were satisfactory given the age of the property. Basic hotel amenities of a good standard. It's strength lies in the welcome and quality of service we received during our 5 night stay, food was excellent very good portions and price. Local beer was really wonderful and although the inn did not offer packed lunch on their menu of services, it was arranged for us and made such a difference to our working day at the Beamish museum. Would definitely stay again. Thank you for the hospitality and care demonstrated especially by Sally!

Excellent friendly place to stay.
My friend and I stopped at the Mary Inn bank holiday Monday while visiting the Beamish museum. Simon gave us a warm welcome and carried out bags to the room which was clean and beds comfy. There is a bus stop across the road but buses were every hour as it was bank holiday. Simon took us down in his car. Evening meals were basic but home cooked. Sally made us a freshly cooked breakfast in the morning and then sorted us a taxi to take us back to Durham train station early evening while we had the day at the museum. (Taxis on the rank at the station are dearer). We were able to leave our luggage at the Inn till later and Simon took it to the taxi. Overall very impressed, nothing posh but nothing was too much trouble to them. Would definitely stay again if visiting the museum. Thanks Simon, Sally and staff. Sandra and Erika.

Staff were lovely and friendly. However the cleanliness of the rooms weren’t good, dirty marks in the toilet, kettle had not been cleaned and was dirty. Beds were very comfy and we had a good nights sleep apart from the constant drip of the shower which we had not used!

Lovely stay, ideal for Beamish museum
We stayed for 2 nights while visiting Beamish museum, which is just a 10-15 minute walk away, so ideally located. Our room was spacious, warm, clean and comfortable, the bathroom perhaps a little tired but clean and served it's purpose. We ate there on the first evening - the food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The locals made us feel very welcome and shared lots of information about the local area, which was very useful. It does exactly what it says on the tin and is great value for money - we would definitely stay again

Very Good8.0
2-night stay for family visit to Durham University
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay. Accommodation is on the upper floor of an old pub which has plenty of character and, quite obviously, much history. Much work has been done to provide roomy, comfortable bedrooms. As we expected from the booking notes, our room (No 3) did not have an en suite 'bathroom' but a dedicated toilet, wash hand basin and shower cubicle with toiletries were located in a separate room across the corridor, which caused us no real problems or inconvenience. Except for the shower, which had an obvious water pressure and showerhead problem, everything worked as it should and we managed. The staff were great - we were made very welcome and were provided with an excellent breakfast on both mornings. Vehicle parking outside the premises is very limited but there was adequate road parking available on both our evenings so we had no problems in that respect. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will return. First time visitors, however, should be aware that this is really an old pub with lots of character but some limitations owing to its age and design. To those bearing that in mind and with a spirit of some adventure, this is a wonderful place to experience.
