Very nice hotel
We spent a full week in Addis at the Home Town Addis. The management was very helpful and friendly. English was excellent as he grew up in DC. That alone was very helpful. Rooms were clean and we appreciated the daily free water. Breakfast were not extensive but fine. Beds were comfortable. Location was close to a lot of things. We felt completely safe and comfortable while in the Hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone especially Americans visiting the city. There were 4 of us and we had a Family suite which consisted of two rooms tied together with a private little entry way. This was very nice. The only compliant I had was the sewer smell in one of the bathrooms would not go away, but it was not that strong and nothing could be done so we lived with the door shut and were fine. Showers were wonderful with each room having its own water heater. Great to have hot water. And the WiFi although not real fast, actually worked almost all of the time. Amazing!!

Will stay here again
There are a many things to recommend about Home Town Addis Hotel, starting with very comfortable beds, great showers, excellent coffee, a friendly and helpful hotel manager who speaks English (having lived much of his life in the DC area), and close proximity to several restaurants and a grocery store. This is still Ethiopia, though, so the room was noisy due to the bar on the first level, the bathroom floor got wet each time I used the shower, there's no central heat, and we lost power and wi-fi one of the 8 days we were there. That said, I will stay here again, even if I have to wear wax earplugs and long johns and a fleece jacket to bed. If you want a Western-style hotel experience, stay at the Hilton or the Sheraton. For me, Home Town Addis Hotel is just perfect.

Cultural Differences
The good things: The place is clean, people are continually cleaning. In the evening and early morning, the two men were excellent assistants with our luggage. When our planned early morning airport ride could not come due to road closures (the return of the Prime Minister), the young man went to the street to get a taxi for us. Alternatively, our room did not look like the photo here, but we did request a room no higher than the first floor. It was okay and the shower had hot water. Strangely, a young man came to the door our first night and took our table away, without an explanation due to lack of English. We had to put all our things on the floor and never received the table back again. Also strange, though breakfast was included, when I asked for a second cup of coffee, I was charged for it.
