Top hotel with great restaurant and service
We were invited to Biggin Hall to attend a friend's birthday lunch and as we live 3.5 hrs away we booked in for B&B. The hotel is just off the beaten track 15 minutes north of Ashbourne in a small rural village. The hotel comprises an old central building with restaurant, bar and lounges, plus a few rooms. Other buildings house pet-friendly rooms and I think there is even a separate cottage with 2 or 3 rooms. Pets are not allowed into the public rooms. We enjoyed a pre-lunch drink in the lounge by a roaring coal and log fire as we waited for our group to arrive. The lunch was excellent with good, attentive service. Plenty of space to relax after lunch too. Our room was comfortable and very nicely appointed. The bathroom spacious and modern. Fresh milk was supplied in the fridge for tea/coffee which was a nice touch PLUS a complimentary bottle of real ale and a small bottle of prosecco. We ate a one-course dinner too - good fresh fish. However, the breakfast was amazing. Wide choice of cereals, fruit, pastries and toast PLUS a very good cooked buffet featuring localy sourced and award-winning produce. Delicious. Finally the hotel also provides a complimentary packed lunch (sandwich, chrisp, choc biscuit and drink) which would be fantastic for the many walkers I'm sure visit the area. Top marks to Biggin Hall - we will definitely consider returning some day.

Snug winter retreat
Enjoyed our stay at Biggin Hall. It was a freezing cold winters day, so the snug lounges with open fires was spot on. Great service, excellent dinner and breakfast at a reasonable price. Only down side was being in the separate cottage which was 100yrds away from the main hotel, doesn't sound far unless it's throwing it down with rain and high winds!

Fantastic! Great location for walking. Friendly staff. Clean, comfortable room. The cosy lounge with log fire was always a welcome sight after a day out walking. Food was excellent. Great to find a chef who can concentrate on good quality ingredients and knows how to put flavours together without going "over the top". We loved the complimentary packed lunches provided. Will definitely be going back soon.

Very enjoyable stay
Despite some mixed reviews, the wife and I decided to try Biggin Hall as it seemed as though some reviews were a little harsh - especially leaving a bad review for a place you never stayed at....... Regardless, we had a warm greeting on arrival and were shown to the room, which was excellent - but mind your head on the beams! (I didn't despite the warnings!). Loads of room and a huge bathroom, so big ticks there. We decided to have a snack and drink in the lounge, enjoying the open fire. We had figured out that this place is popular with people who want the walks and good food & drink, but chatting with other guests we quickly discovered that people return year on year and that was very reassuring. One group had been coming for over 10 years! Onto dinner and the feel in the restaurant was quite cosy. Service was prompt and polite, food was excellent. We tried duck and lamb respectively and the wines were good too (we tried the champagne, merlot, and the Italian red). Post dinner, we retired to the lounge again and joined in the banter with the other guests - more folks who were repeat visitors. The staff sign off at 10-10.30pm, but wasn't an issue for us as we'd had great evening. Breakfast next morning was decent, and once again service was good. All in all a great break and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. My only small suggestion would be that they would benefit form a good local cask ale
