Overall, a really nice stay...
The lodge setting is beautiful and the location was top notch. It is on top of a hill and only a 10 minute walk to a gorgeous beach with great surfing. (It is also far away from the main road dust!!) Aqua Tibia surf rentals and lessons is right there (at beach entrance). My only concerns were the large red ants which I think were coming from the cracks in the bathroom. My other concern would be how well the container will be maintained as it ages. Sometimes we smelled sewage while in the shower. If they can lessen the ants issue and take a look at the plumbing / sewage, we would definitely come back and stay there again.

Awesomeness
I'm an architect who is somewhat wary of shipping container projects. They're amazing when used as colossal building blocks, but on a small scale, they're often forced to do things they aren't very good at, which results in mean, uncomfortable spaces. But Green Sanctuary made a believer out of me. It's a remarkably well-conceived and executed design that exploits the potential of the containers to the fullest. As cabins, the interior space is bit tight, but comfortable. The real brilliance is in the variety of outdoor spaces created by linear arrangement of the four 40 ft containers, a micro urbanism of layers that alternate between open and door closed, public and private. The resulting spaces are ideal for enjoying the indoor/outdoor experience without feeling exposed. Aesthetically, the containers work beautifully in contrast with the lush jungle flora. Enough about the architecture. Fernando, the lovable proprietor, understands how to create a comfortable and special experience with attention to detail all around. The breakfast was delicious and the gorgeous pool, refreshing. We had a great experience here and look forward to returning to this little paradise soon!

A sanctuary indeed!
The place is tucked away in the forest of Nosara. A definite plus if you're looking for relaxation and beautiful surroundings. The beach is just down the Path. Fernando, the owner, is exceptional. He made us feel very welcome and had many recommendations for dining, beaches, and just relaxing. His domestic workers were also very attentive and friendly. Nosara is quaint and definitely a surfers paradise.

The pool leaves much to be desired, but you're at an amazing beach so who needs a pool anyway?! Everything is else is great. And there's always monkeys hanging around!

Nice hotel at a reasonable price
The Green Sanctuary is a lovely place to stay in Nosara at a fair price. The rooms consist of converted shipping containers and are modern and clean with comfortable mattresses and a minifridge. Breakfast is included, and is very filling. There is an open air yoga/fitness area you can use to schedule a yoga class or for your own daily practice, as well as a small pool to cool off. The hotel is near the Bodhi tree resort, which is in the southern part of town. I highly recommend a bike (for rent for $10/day or $50/week) or some other form of transport to get around, as downtown and the northern part of town that has most of the restaurants is a hike on foot. The beach is a short walk away.
