Magnificent view with well kept grounds. Staff pleasant and helpful. Bedroom had to be changed due to size (small and flat pack type furniture) for an older room which will be changed in the near future to update it!?! Unusual to find only breakfast in quite a large rate with dinner extra.

No pool
Always loved our stay at the Netherwood been many times. On our arrival at reception a notice to say as of today the pool will be closed for refurbishment. As we didn't see this on the website on booking or on Netherwoods website you can not imagine our dissatisfaction. Later that evening a member of staff informed us the pool is to close permanently as they are taking it out to fit steam rooms and saunas so the drilling at breakfast was quite loud. No pool says we will not be going again.

Don't let the outside fool you
From the outside this looks like an amazing place both the location and the building itself are superb. Once you walk through the front door though things take a turn for the worse. The reception is rundown and unmanned with the staff appearing from a very grotty back office that was visible from the reception. This was followed by having to hunt down someone to serve at the bar. Once you negotiate the maze to get to your room we were greeted with a room that smelt and was very dated and a shower that let out a tiny amount of water. Thankfully we dined out so didn't run the risk of the food as there where dogs roaming the back office areas. Finally on check out they charged me again for a room I had already paid for.

Wonderful building and grounds.
A truly wonderful building and gardens. Stayed for one night as a last minute break. Left the car at home and took the train, the hotel is a five minute walk away. The receptionist looked down her nose at us which wasn't a great start. (What is it about a black dress that makes women think it's a badge of power?) my morning paper didn't arrive and listening to staff arguing didn't portray a happy workforce. The food was very good. The log fire and bar was a welcoming place. However listening to staff singing "he ain't heavy he's my brother" whilst trying to sleep, or every footstep heard walking passed our room after a long tiring day wasn't great. Overall a lovely hotel that is let down by lack of a smile. It would have been nice to have been asked if we enjoyed our stay, but the surly little madam was having none of that. Could we leave our bag and pick it up later? Yes happy replied, bring it behind the reception. Nice hotel but lessons in customer service strongly needed.
