Room is clean, but bathroom needs a facelift
We have stayed at Hotel Solares four times and we get the same room each time. Over time the condition of the bathroom has deteriorated. The shower insert and faucet needs to be replaced. Mildew is being covered up with chaulking. Will probably give the hotel another shot because of the location to downtown. But it’s time for a bathroom facelift.

Maybe better than a cesspool of mediocrity
I’ll start off by saying if you’re staying in Santa Cruz, it’ll be tough to find any sort of accommodation that isn’t wickedly expensive. All the crap places can still be well over $100/night. Anyway, Solares seemed really good for the price given the location (near downtown). However: -the outlets. Every. Outlet. Sucked. I don’t know what happened to them, but no plug would stay in. It took twice as long to do my hair because the plug would just fall out. Someone had to hold it in, or I would just have to do one curl at a time, and replug the iron. To charge my phone, you just leave it and make a small sacrifice and be sure you breathe in the other direction. Every outlet. Hotdog down a hallway -I thought maybe I had gotten really dirty somehow after a long drive/roadtrip, but no, those dirty marks in the tub during my shower wiped away. It was grime that tells me that shower hadn’t been cleaned in days or even weeks. It was incredibly disgusting -I’m pretty sure they overcharged me for parking (yes, on top of paying more than the stay is worth, you have to pay for parking. $11/day/vehicle. 2 vehicles for 2 days was $55. Is tax really $10?) I’d call to ask, but I just don’t want anything to do with that place ever again. -it’s probably better than the shady looking motel across the street, but just do yourself a favor and spend the extra cash on someplace decent; or camp. Not too terrible I guess if you’re really tired and willing to settle
