Parlez-vous Francais, only
This hotel is in a good location near many shops and restaurants and metro (although that can be said for many hotels in Paris), and appears to have been updated relatively recently. However, front desk staff do not all speak English comfortably, rooms are quite small and limited in availability. I thought I booked a twin, but was given a double. The front desk attempted to explain that I failed to type something in to the hotels.com website in order to request the twin room, and there was no availability when I arrived. They could not provide a cot or even additional bedding (claiming that they'd have to find an empty room to strip the bedding), which made for an uncomfortable three nights sharing a bed. Lights on bed did not work, toilet vent grill was missing, and cardboard was stuffed into the energy-savings light switch by the door, defeating its purpose. Upon check-out, front desk staff spoke almost no English which made for an aggressive interaction as he attempted to collect some "TAX! TAX! TAX!" from us, that was not advertised when I booked or checked in.

Poor 2.0
Horrible / non-existant service
The service in this hotel has gone from barely acceptable to very bad. Only the desk clerk was available to handle a bunch of problems (broken heater, broken safe, extremely hot steel shower regulator). I was told the owner/manager was "not in Paris" and could not be reached. I was given an email address that turned out to go right back to him. After more than a day, the heat was fixed. I was told the hotel "no longer offers a safe" (even though it was sitting there in the room and was noticeable when walking by other rooms while the maid was cleaning) and it did not work the entire five night stay. I have a second degree burn on my arm from the steel shower regulator which was was exposed and as hot (or hotter) than an iron. The desk clerk laughed when I showed him and said "all of them are like that in France." Having been to France many times and stayed in many different hotels, I beg to differ. The hotel itself is starting to show its age and a complete renovation is long overdue.

Very Good 8.0
Great hotel, bad management.
To start with, the hotel itself is wonderful, the location is great: close to two metro stations and tons of amazing supermarkets, markets, bakeries, etc. However, the problems started with the wifi. The first night I missed a conference call with my work because the wifi just shut down. The receptionist couldn't do anything so he called somewhere and had me talk to some lady who had a typical French attitude towards tourists: she didn't let me say anything and simply stated that there was nothing to be done until the morning when it could be fixed. No apologies, etc. I put "No disturb" sign on the door because we didn't want our room to be cleaned: my elderly mom didn't feel comfortable with her things being gone through. They cleaned it the first day. I went to the reception a few times to make sure they won't do it again. They did! They cleaned next day, too. After that I asked the receptionist to write on a sheet and put it on the door with a scotch tape. The worst thing happened at check out when I've been told I had to pay the full amount although I had paid in full on hotels.com. Thanks, God, I was able to access the email with confirmation and show it to them. When I asked later, how it could happened, I've been told that the person who did the initial booking did not put a note that the reservation has been paid for. REALLY??? Also, it's 2019, and not all receptionists could speak English. Seriously, it's Paris, a city of international tourism.

Not worth the price tag
Overall, I slept well, the staff tried to be helpful, and the location was convenient for me. However that is the extent of the positive things I can say about this experience. The checkin process was very slow. On top of that, neither the electric card key and the old-fashioned key I received for my room worked. I alerted the receptionist who, though friendly, took about 20 minutes to resolve the issue. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet however, the room itself was absolutely not worth what I paid. The couch looked as if it had already lived a long life. The shower, though spacious for a Parisian hotel room, was simply not clean enough. There was orange build-up in between some of the tiles. Even connecting to Wi-Fi was a challenge. You had to sign in every time and if you didn't click on a link sent to your email address, you got systematically kicked off of Wi-Fi after 15 minutes and couldn't re-connect for another 20-25 minutes. Again, really not worth money I spent. I would absolutely NOT book here again.

“Sorry.”
Warm spell in Paris. Hotel room hot. Bedside lights inop. Overheads very hot. Asked for a solution. None offered, none given. All with a smile and a “Sorry.”
