A Wonderful Experience
Wonderful and authentic Japanese inn experience. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay a great one. They will provide traditional Japanese robes for dinner and help with transportation to local sites. Within walking distance to the Snow Monkey Forest.

Stay if you love onsens, monkeys, and food!
[Season: Winter] Choose this place #1 for the Japanese-style stay and #2 for the proximity to the snow monkey park. I thoroughly enjoyed the tatami floors, futon beds, cute garden and decorations, and the amazing hot bath including an outdoor component! (The private bath for couples kinda sucked in comparison haha.) I had no desire to explore the nearby onsen town as a result (and didn't want to walk around in the cold). The location allows you to walk from the front door to get to the snow monkey park early (opens at 9am) to hopefully have less of a crowd. Only negative: despite its multi-course extravagance, I did not like the dinner (the sashimi did not taste good/fresh). Please improve! On the other hand, Japanese-style breakfast here was one of my favorite meals ever!

A wonderful stay
We had a wonderful and relaxing stay. The staff is superb from top to bottom. Even though it was winter, we were very warm and the hotel provides you with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The grounds are beautiful, including a center garden, outdoor hot springs, and a breathtaking view from our room. Dinner was excellent--we enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and wonderful service. The location is also about a 30-minute walk from Jigokudani Monkey Park.

Great location for Jigokudani (snow monkey park)
Perfect location for the Jigokudani Yaen Koen (snow monkey park). The hotel is maybe 400 meters (a short 5-minute walk) to the start of the 1.6km trail to the park. The hotel has a good breakfast but no restaurant for dinner or lunch. There is a warm indoor pool, and they provide a courtesy van to the Yudanaka train station (otherwise it's a 10-minute taxi ride for $10-15). The service was wonderful, but they charge a "spa tax" upon checkout of roughly $5.00. Don't expect a typical Western hotel room as this is a traditional room where you sleep on futons that will be set up for you while you are away.
