Apt style, great location, but no on site service
Apartment style with separate bedroom kitchenette, laundry and full bathroom all in your pRivage room..perfect if staying for more than two more days. Near a grocery mart, rail station, large shopping malls and restaurants. Here are the downsides- there are no elevators (we were on rhe third flr) and there isn't a live person when checking-in so if you run into any complications (like we did with the entry codes) you will need to call someone. It took us a half hour to get settled; however, once we checked in and got our bags to the room, everything worked out great. One more tv in the didn't matter to us, but it may for some. I thought it was worth the price we paI'd for our stay.

Overall a great stay
Very convenient location 5 minutes from the main train station and good price. The place was comfortable and clean, with many in-room facilities (including washing machine). Having a pocket wifi was great too. The only problem we had was with the registration: the system returned only 1 room code because I booked both rooms with the same email address, I wish this can be improved. Hopefully, a friendly staff helped us to our 2nd room, but if you arrive in the middle of the night, it could be a problem (make sure to register you 2 rooms with different email addresses in this case). But overall we had a great stay.

Exceptional 10.0
Fantastic amenities and location
This hotel was a little hard to find and I had to ask for directions. For some reason, Google Maps took me in a very wrong direction when asked to navigate to Japaning Hotel Hakkoen. The best way to get there is to go all the way to the last exit from the underground passage at Kyoto Station (past the Kyoto Tower and keep going all the way to the end). Take the exit on the left and go up the stairs. When you exit to the surface street keep going straight and then take a right at the first traffic light you come to. Japaning Hotel will be on the left. You can't miss the curtain at the entrance. The automated check in was easy, just don't forget your passport in the picture holder like I did. The room was spacious and had so many awesome amenities like the kitchen and the clothes washer (but no dryer, you have to hang your clothes on the balcony). The presence of 3-prong outlets was also quite nice. Given the extremely reasonable price point, the proximity to Kyoto Station, and the amenities, this place was a steal and I will definitely stay here again if I find myself in Kyoto.

Poor 2.0
A no-show hotel
I arrived in Kyoto extremely late which I had informed the hotel. Their system is 'hands-off' except 9-6. Their instructions were 'extremely late', i.e. while I was traveling and with dodgy access to internet in Kyoto, especially around mid-night, I was unable to see their instructions and hence was unable to stay there. The honest thing is a refund, soon please.

Quiet comfortable place to stay near the station
The rooms are more like mini apartments than hotel rooms, and come complete with kitchen, stove, microwave, and washer/dryer. The location is excellent, just 5 minutes walk to the station, which in Kyoto is very important because the station is the transportation, shopping, and food hub for the whole city. The heating/air conditioning units work very well and are quiet. The place is very modern. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and were able to look after my luggage both before and after my stay. The keypad entry system is very convenient and means you don't need to worry about carrying a key or entry card. The only downside is that the mattresses are not very comfortable. Overall, highly recommended, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
