I stay at this hotel quite frequently. As with most of my stays here, it was pleasant.

Enjoyable stay
It is a beautiful old hotel. My stay was comfortable. Did not do the continental breakfast but had an assortment of muffins, pastries, fruit, hard boiled eggs, looked nice. The downtown area has restaurants and stores. Wish we came earlier to check out the shops.

Our best stay in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area
Have stayed in lots of modern hotels/motels and find them pretty boring. The quirky charm of the Blackhawk more than made up for any shortcomings we noticed (i.e., one of the lounge chairs was missing one of its four legs), and the martini bar on the ground floor was a very appreciated surprise. We’ll likely be back.

Lovely stay in historic hotel
Beautiful hotel. Room was spacious and jet tub was great. Everything was clean and well-maintained with decor true to this hotel's National Historic Register of Historic Places distinction. The European Buffet style breakfast was simple and could have been restocked, but was adequate for a light meal to start the day. There is a 10 minute parking spot to check-in at the back of the building which could be explained at time of booking so we didn't drive around in circles during check-in. Once we got our code, it was nice to park close to the back of the hotel. View of Main Street Cedar Falls was lovely and the 2 inches of snow we received overnight added to the charm. Check out the Chocolaterie across the street - save a few calories for a splurge.

A great girls weekend!
My friend and I got two rooms in the historic part of the hotel for a girls weekend in Cedar Falls, our third year to do this & stay at the Blackhawk. They are under new ownership & are making improvements. Both rooms were great with very comfortable beds. The huge & beautiful tile shower in my room had a non-adjustable shower head which struck me as a very bad decision. Had time to try to sleep in on Sat. morning & was kept awake by loud construction noise between 9-11 am. Really? On Saturday morning! The attached restaurant is also being renovated, but still plenty of room in the Stuffed Olive, which has a huge martini selection & nice specials. There is a new work out facility for use a couple blocks away which looks pretty nice from pictures, but I decided not to go due to rain & time consideratios. The lights weren't working on the tiny on-site fitness room. All in all, a really good trip, friendly staff who aim to please, & improvements being made. We'll definitely be back!
