Centrally Located Traditional Inn
Was a great stay and the amenities were fully available to us :spa, dining, room, and lounge. Staff spoke English well and were very helpful. We love the fact that they helped us with maps and even selling us bus passes at front desk! The rooms were large and for Westerners, definitely ask for a second mattress for the floor futon. Using the floor is very stiff for those who are used to a traditional mattress or memory foam bed. Didn't like that the bathrooms were small and old fashioned. Would fit a person 5' 3" but for anyone above 6 ft this was a challenge for the husband. Layout of the bathroom:room was difficult. The sinks were located on the opposite side of the room from the toilet&tub. This made getting ready in the morning awkward...Was MUCH better to just use the public bath instead of the inroom bath. Breakfast was included in our stay and was a good sized breakfast and tasty but traditional! Meals were different per day, so you really couldn't be bored. It is "kaiseki" style breakfast. Not the BEST I've had, but pretty darn good. You are served in the dining hall with other guests. Loved that you are loaned a yukata to wear around the onsen like a traditional Japanese inn.

Excellent ryokan experience!
We had a fabulous stay here!! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They even moved our stuff to our new room for the second night (we had booked 2 separate rooms). The room was clean and comfortable. We appreciated getting a taste of Japanese culture by staying here, and sleeping on the floor was more comfortable than expected! Also, the hotel is located near the Gojo subway station and bus stop, where you can catch various tourist sightseeing buses. Overall a wonderful experience.

A good experience for international travelers
We enjoyed our stay in this traditional Japanese inn. It was definitely a very different kind of experience from a Western style hotel. First off, the general location in Kyoto is ok, but because of all of the small streets it was difficult for us to get to the hotel the first time. Our taxi driver couldn't find it and we lugged our suitcases for 15 minutes while tracking our GPS. Once we found it, the service was excellent. The futon beds were more comfortable than we expected and the room was fine for us. The bathroom situation may throw some westerners off. The little shower tub was on the left of the front door, the toilet was on the right and the sink is on the other side of the room. I enjoyed my first onsen experience in the hot tub and wash room upstairs! The traditional breakfast is interesting, though not easy on the delicate western palate.
