Location is very convenient as it's right across the street from Keisei Ueno Station, and within a few minutes' walk of JR Ueno Station. The room is cramped for two people, but it's pretty affordable and works for an overnight stay.

It is the first time I have stayed in this area, and I probably would do so again as it is great value considering how well connected it is...if your travels involve Narita airport. The hotel is literally seconds from one of the exits of the Ueno Narita Skyliner station. The subway stop is less than 5 mins walk away which will get you direct to Shinjuku in less than 20 minutes. That's the location. I had a lake view double room on the top floor. The room was tiny with a disproportionately large TV! It had one of those typical small Japanese bathrooms that seems like one giant piece of moulded plastic. Moderately tall people will be touching the bathroom ceiling. It was OK on my own, but for two people it would be a struggle. The view was actually great, but you had to kneel on the bed in the wrong direction to look out of the window (as the room was essentially the width of the bed). The bed was comfy enough, but the pillows were horrific! Hard to describe them but they were about as thick as a mattress topper and hard. All in all, for the very cheap price I paid I can't really complain.

Fantastic location and lovely view. The rooms at APA are very small - but they have the best and softest beds. Perfect after a day of sightseeing. I will stay again.

Fabulous location! Crowded lobby, filled with luggage and huge lines to the elevators, was very off putting. I love Japan but if first appearances matter, it was an initial shock to enter the lobby. The location is superbe and the staff helpful.

Smoking rooms on a separate floor and great view

View of pond and temple is wonderful (request lake view room). Park view also is pleasant. Both smoking and nonsmoking rooms. Smoking rooms are on one floor so smoke bothers no one. While western hotels often discriminate against smokers, this hotel demonstrates respect for everyone. It is unusual to find an affordable hotel in Tokyo with a lovely view. Extensive amenities. Unfortunately the room cleaner often did not replenish the coffee and tea but I could obtain more at the desk. I found the beanbag pillow uncomfortable but could get a fluffy soft one at the desk. This was my third visit. All I needed to bring was dental floss and body lotion. Included toothpaste and brush, comb/brush, razor/shaving cream, cotton swabs, makeup cloth, washcloth, shower cap, hair band, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Nice but simple bidet. Desk staff speak English. Next door to train from Narita airport, park, museums, temples, and shopping including groceries.

The location and staff were excellent. The room was the smallest I have ever had in my travels. No closet, just two pegs on the wall. You could only access the double bed from one side. Had to climb over my spouse to use the bathroom. Also, a faint persistent odor of urine around the toilet. Still, for the price, an acceptable stay if you will only be there a night or two.
