Great value in great location
For the amount I paid (roughly $24 per night over 4 nights) it was a great value. Best of all, complimentary breakfast at Sukiya (beef bowls) next door-! The stay itself was pretty decent. I felt like Doraemon that lives in a closet. Yes, it's basically a Japanese closet where you can sleep in. As other reviewers noted, you really have to keep the sliding door a bit open to let some air in or else it gets pretty stuffy and hot (especially if your on the top closet. It gets a tad noisy, when people are rummaging through their lugagge or people snoring loudly (but ask the front desk staff for free earplugs) and you're all set to sleep soundly. The toilets are clean but gets a bit of traffic especially in the morning around 8am since all the Chinese and Korean tourists wake up around that time. The bath house is located on the basement floor. Basically it's your traditional Japanese style Hotspring bath and shower area. There were small instructions in multi-language showing etiquette on how to bathe. The staff really should make the sign bigger, because I had to keep reminding other foreigners how to bathe probably. Here's a quick lesson on bathing etiquette: Shower first, THEN go into the bath. NOT the other way around! If you use the sauna, shower AFTER you come out of the sauna BEFORE you go into the bath-!! Do you want to bathe in pool of foreign sweat? Then bathe properly people-!! If you minus the clueless dirty foreigners, it was a great stay close to every location.

In the center of the city
This is such a convenient place to stay in Kyoto. The pod/ cabins are small like you would expect but very comfortable. I thought that going to the Spa in the basement for a shower was going to be a pain , but was no worse than going to a shower on the same floor, nice products in the shower. Be aware the spa is in the traditional japanisse style. The laundry was great and efficient. This hotel could do with a space where you can sort your luggage because no space in pod to do this.

Solo Traveling
I loved staying in this hotel! I'm a solo female traveler and felt safe staying in the female dorm. I had the deluxe capsule so I felt here was enough space for me, my backpack, and small roll on. There is small long lockers to store your stuff, enough for a backpacker but not with suitcases. The place was comfy, and very very clean. I agree that the rooms aren't cold, but they are hot either (I stayed in June) Basically room temperature and if you close your door, no airflow. But it wasn't uncomfortable. The place is unbelievable clean! I saw cleaning staff all the time. The Shower/Suna/Hot tub area doesn't allow towels, so if your uncomfortable same gender body exposure that can be a problem. But everyone was just getting there business done. The stalls do have doors. I came earlier before check-in and they had a section where you can leave your luggage for the day (including tags). The location was right next to a subway stop and you can walk about 15-20mins to Gion area (or bus like I did) overall I loved staying here and felt safe. I would absolutely come back.
