Good hotel but limited parking space
Location is excellent in front of the port for travelling to many islands and for dining and shopping. Hotel has only 18 parking space, and very difficult to secure the space. Public parking space nearby was very limited. Breakfast was great with many variety of food. Floor in bathroom was about one inch high with sharp edge, which was dangerous.

Beware: bed bugs!
I travel a lot especially in Japan (my 8th time) and this is the worst hotel I've stayed at in Japan! I chose it because it looked nice on pictures and it was close to the port, restaurants and shops and also in the description it said free parking available. I was really disappointed because when I checked in they told me there were no parking available. I had rented a car based on it and needed the parking. There were only 12 spots available for their restaurant's clients and the whole hotel. If it was your lucky day then you'd get a spot but most probably not. There is a small onsen (hot public bath) and maybe that's why it was so hot in my room... steaming hot... I was unlucky to get one of the super old rooms... the walls were all cracked, ripped furnitures, etc... really not like the pictures. It would of passed if it was clean... but then I got bitten and found a bed bug in my cover! Ewww! I took a close up pic and showed it to the front desk but they didn't do anything! So disgusting! I never experienced this before! Just wanted to get out! Had to do laundry twice to make sure I didn't bring any back home!

Not value for money (but great location)
The location of the hotel is excellent, a short walk to the ferry port where you can get boats to 4-5 islands in 15-50 minutes. We arrived with high expectations due to the price tag, but the hotel itself is tired and facilities are average. We stayed in a superior double, which is in the larger, and I believe newer, block. A third block appears to be under construction. We arrived on a windy evening and the old single glazed windows rattled loudly through the night against strong (but not abnormal) wind and rain. The breakfast is OK, very plentiful but quality is nothing special. Wi-fi signal is very weak. Small touches let it down. For example, you will need to pay for the bottled water in your room - for the nightly rate I'd certainly expect it to be included!

Ideal hotel for island hopping
Hotel Miyahira is located directly at Ishigakijima's ferry terminal (just across the street). If you're visiting this island then hopefully you intend to do island hopping and for this the hotel could not be in a better location. Get a flat-rate pass for the ferries adjusted to the length of your stay and use the boats to explore a different island every day. The hotel is surrounded by many restaurants/izakayas and a konbini is also close by. The taxi ride from the airport is about 3000 Yen for one way and takes ~30 minutes. The rooms were super-clean, modern and comfortable. The staff was friendly and always very helpful despite the broken English (I decided to switch to Japanese which made it easier). A huge plus I want to emphasize was the breakfast. It was a great buffet with all the sorts of food one could possible want for a Japanese breakfast. It varied a bit every day and the assortment ranged from stir-fried goya vegetables to taco rice. They also had western food, eggs and pastries. Even though not directly located at a beach I would recommend this hotel also for beach vacation. In that case a great choice would be to hop on the ferries and explore the beaches of the surrounding islands. Ps.: We shared a cab from the airport and also passed by other hotels. Only when talking about Miyahira the driver said "oh what a nice hotel" sounding a bit envious.
