Almost homeless
Hotels.com allowed me to book this B&B (with tavern) the morning of my stay, even though the place had decided to close for the New Year holiday - which was not reflected on the booking site. As a result, I arrived to find the door locked and the rooms pretty much dark. Fortunately there was someone on site who left their phone number on the door, and let me in when I called; otherwise I (and my dachshund) would have been out of luck and stranded after using a stay reward to book the night. The person on site was very pleasant and welcoming to me and my dog, and attentive to my needs, despite my late arrival (9:30 pm). They still prepared a very nice breakfast-to-order for me (anything I wanted). Wayside Inn turned out to be a historical B&B with lovely old décor and antiques, but the rooms show their age. The bed was comfortable, the area quite quiet, but of course I was the only guest there. I am a bit fussy about the bathrooms wherever I stay, and this one was in bad need of a good paint job, and some more thorough cleaning, and refreshed calking in the shower. I didn't even want to use the shower. They "don't charge for pets" but the cost of the room pretty much reflected it anyway in my opinion. If you like historical places, I recommend this, but this was just a stay-over on a long car trip and I probably will not stay here again.

Always an amazing place to stay! Pet friendly, beautiful inn! Excellent breakfast included. We travel through the area several times a year, and the Wayside is our go-to!

Don't expect all the modern conveniences
Staying at America's oldest motor inn has its ups and downs. It is neat to stay at such a historic inn, but it lacks a number of creature comforts we have grown accustomed to having like wifi and in-room coffee service.
