A taste of the traditional.
We really enjoyed our stay in a Japanese room in this ryokan. The room was traditional with a bright, clean, modern bathroom and the futons were more comfortable than I expected. One tip is to make sure you have a room away from the front of the hotel, if you’re a light sleeper, because there is traffic on the road all through the night. Because the staff spoke excellent English, it made everything easy and they were friendly and helpful. We didn’t eat breakfast as we were on a timescale, so I can’t comment on that. The location is great for evenings as it’s within a fifteen minute walk from Gion and Pontocho Alley, where there are loads of restaurants. It’s a twenty minute walk from the station, from where you can get anywhere in the city. There are temples everywhere but if you want to be closer to the main ones I’d suggest staying more in the north of the city, as it takes a bit of travelling time to get to them from here. There are bus stops about a ten minute walk away but as our time here was limited we used the train and metro for speed. You really need to stay in Kyoto for four to five days, depending what you want to see, to see it in a relaxed way. We loved it and had a great time.

The room was so charming, and the staff was incredible. They made our stay so special. They even helped us with dinner reservations. I'd gladly come back to this place.

The location was amazing. But the room was a little small for the rate.

The staff were extremely helpful; they made reservations at a restaurant, called a taxi, and advised me about local attractions. They even had a sake tasting in their lobby one night! English was well-spoken along with several other languages; there were many international guests here. As a solo female traveler I felt safe here and in the surrounding area. Highly recommend!
