Great... if you wanna sleep w an anime body pillow
I had an anime capsule. To be honest, based on the pictures, you must have a pretty good idea of what you're getting, and it delivers in that respect. Suspect noises from other capsules in the middle of the night can be weird, but then again, as I said, you pretty much know what you're signing up for. It might be worth mentioning that there are no special TV channels included. The public bath seemed great but I didn't have a chance to go. No tattoos allowed. The local area seems like it is a bit of a red-light district... adequately.

A special capsule hotel
A very special capsule hotel. Taking 10-15 minutes to get to the capsule hotel from Hinnodecho station. Lots of restaurants nearby. The different themes of the capsule are a nice feature of this hotel. There is an onsen there which allegedly (i) provides water from deep sea and (ii) thus good for your skin. Here goes the special parts: (1) The receptionist saw my luggage and asked me how I should deal with it (haha...). I said keeping it near my capsule but he said it was not allowed. That's a first for me, not allowed to keep it near my capsule. Then I said letting the hotel keep it. He said "Ha ! Then you will need to pay 200yen for that.". Another first for me. I paid. What other choice do I have? What's the point of staying in a hotel which I have to separately pay to keep my luggage? (2) I found coin lockers, those you can easily find in any station in Japan, outside my room. It's cheaper to use the coin lockers there than those in the station haha. A third first for me, and another indication that the capsule hotel owner wants us to pay to keep our thing. (3) I know I was staying in a capsule hotel for men but I was still shocked to see fully naked men taking the stairs and the elevators. (4) The hotel will charge you 1,080 yen if you check out from 10:00am to 12n (what about after 12n?) and it still strictly enforce this rule - I saw a Japanese man checking out at 10:10am being charged for that.

No Sleep, Smoke, Cheap Bed, & ***** Perversion
Sleep was nearly impossible: door on very noisy wheels; pull-down screen blocked only half the light; capsule screen had no lock; light was kept on 24/7; people once rudely carried on conversations in the room at night and sometimes left the door open; people could be heard hacking up snot in the sink area down the hall. They should change the name to 'caters to smokers' because apart from your bedroom floor and the lobby, the hotel generally reeked of smoke with active smokers. The '2 beds' description includes on your reservation is false, because you only get one capsule. The lady working first night shift was the single rudest Japanese I've ever met, stopped short of cussing me out for daring to bring up the fact that indicated I'd be getting two beds and asking how much rooms normally cost. From mistaken description and my first capsule having a weak mattress that I sunk through, hurting my hip on the hardwood floor, they moved me to a 'premium capsule', better mattress but problems listed above. The sauna had woman giving massage in bath area (naked men area), and there are magazines with **** and perverse comics (with smokers). I said I had several problems at checkout but manager dismissed me indicating he wasn't interested in them, said that this was a capsule hotel, not a business hotel. Finally, there are stripper bars on the same block, complete with transvestites (seen chatting with customers outside as I left the final morning).
