Great fun for family
Amazing experience for the family. It was our first time sleeping on tatami and had a great fun wearing the Japanese robes. Facilities were clean, though not the most modern, it was just fine. The spa pools themselves were nice and hot and the private time though limited to 30 minutes was enough to soak. Lastly the meal was delicious and again a very unique experience

Great stay in Hakone.
A very nice experience at a ryokan. Some of the fixtures were in need of repair but didn't really detract from the overall stay.

I would pay more and go somewhere else
The property showed a bit of age, which cannot be told by the pictures. We booked this because of the good review but it is rather disappointing. There’s a strange smell in our room, which I guess is a combination of food and age ... because there’s no bed but futon bed so you actually sleep and eat in the living room area. Since, there’s no restaurant so they only serve your meal in your room. You need to choose the time of your meal and be punctual half and hour earlier to get out of bed so that they can make your bed. For a price like this, it has been a pain in your ass as a foreigner. Their service is rather rigid, though there’s a free pick up service, they only offer from Miyanoshita to their hotel. However, the train service was suspended due to maintenance during our stay so instead of train we have to take bus and the hotel would still be able to pick us up from the bus station. The problem is we do not have local phone access, we have to search for a place to make a call. It would be easier to find a place to make a call to them from the train station than just a bus stop in the middle of no where! On the day we left the hotel, it has heavy rain, so we ask if the free shuttle will just drop us off at the Miyanoshita bus stop? The answer is yes! We finally called a taxi but it has been quite a joke, the staffs English is poor too and it’s very difficult to communicate till we finally gave up. Old building, outdated services. One positive is the food is ok.

Wonderful experience!!
It was an amazing experience. The lady serving us was meticulous. The dinner and breakfast that was included were once in a lifetime experience. They provided yukatas and the kids love them! I had an allergy reaction in the middle of the night and the staff ensure I was well taken care of.

We had a lovely time at Musashino Bekkan. The grounds were serene and beautiful. The staff were wonderful and helpful. There was not a lot of english ability, but that was part of the charm and we were able to get by. The food was delicious but challenging at times for our western palate, especially the large japanese breakfasts. The greater Hakone area was really wonderful to explore and family friendly. There is no wireless in the rooms, which is nice if you want to unplug but inconvenient if you need to be connected. you will require a shuttle to get anywhere, as the location is out of the way, but it is only a few minutes to the train station, and we never had to wait for a ride.

Really good
Kaiseki was high end; including things like live abolone and bluefin tuna. Outdoor onsen was reservable for 30 min upon checkin and was beautiful. There are also free use highend massage chairs in the zen spa area. The best ryokan out of the 3 we stayed in. Only thing they could improve on is updating the furniture and perhaps changing the windows as the building is a bit older.

Honeymoon weekend
The service here is second to none, trying the traditional kaiseki meals was a real experience and the food was fantastic. Pick up is in a bit of a beaten up van and the check in area is a bit strange but once you’re in your room, particularly if you have a private open air bath like we did, it feels so relaxing and traditional. Make sure to book out the Japanese style bath in the woods but I wouldn’t worry too much about the other one, it didn’t feel anywhere near as private or as clean. The views are gorgeous from almost everywhere on the property however the building itself is a little bit past its prime. All in all, a very very pleasant stay.
