I very much enjoyed my stay at L'Escogriffe. My room was a bit small, lacked a closet (some hooks for hanging clothes, but included a small sink. In reality, I didn't really need anything larger. Denis is charming, friendly and maintains a very clean and welcoming ambience. The breakfasts were sooooo good! My only suggestion would be earlier breakfast (offered from 9:00 to 11:00) in order to have more time to do things in the morning. Location couldn't have been better, right by Ste. Catherine (sp?) in Le Village.

A warm, welcoming place in "Le Village"
Montreal's Gay Village still has pizazz, and l'Escogriffe couldn't be a better base from which to enjoy the village and the dynamic city beyond. It's small, only four rooms (with shared bath), which makes you feel like a guest in a home rather than a faceless traveller in a big hotel. Denis was very accommodating for a late check-in because of my flight's arrival time. He makes a hearty breakfast to order for each guest each morning, and it was so substantial that I rarely ate lunch. My room was well furnished: a big, really comfortable bed, a table for the computer, lots of space to stash clothing, and nice touches like a good reading light above the bed. The just-reopened Beaudry metro station is 1.5 blocks away, giving access to Montreal's comprehensive subway system. The heart of Le Village, rue Ste. Catherine, is a half-block away, and a pedestrian-only strip in summer -- great for people watching.
