Wonderful place to stay! Love the prairie style furnishings and the history of the hotel. “Paper Moon” fans will enjoy the environment.

A beautiful property with rude staff.
We chose the Midland as a venue for our wedding reception and I was very pleased to find they also had rooms available at a decent rate. When we arrived the lobby was warm and pleasant despite the pouring rain outside. Then came check in. I was very upset to find the front desk staff was very short and unpleasant when I asked questions regarding payment. The girl asked if I would like the payment run on the card on file or another, I mentioned that I thought my credit card had been charged weeks earlier (although it was not supposed to be charged until check-in per my booking with hotels.com). When I said so the girl explained to me with a snide attitude that my card had only been charged a deposit and I still needed to pay the rest. I said okay and provided payment she then printed my recent and let me know that "she guessed I was actually staying two nights" again with rolling eyes and an attitude. And please do not get me started on their event planner, poor communication, zero respect for timeliness, and a uppity rude deminor. All in all, this is an absolutely beautifully restored property with a cute restaurant and a great lake nearby, it would be a shame to see it all fail due to rude and incompetent staff. (Although I do want to say, the lady who came by to clean our room at check out and the folks who cooked/cleaned for my reception were very nice. It's too bad they are all back of house staff.)

Quirky and fun.
Quirky little old fashioned hotel in a charming small farming town with a really wonderful restaurant on the lower level. Get any of the dishes with fried chicken because they hand bread and fry it to order. I had the fried chicken salad and it was fresh and delicious. My daughter had the chicken sandwich and it was a huge filet served with fresh cut fries. The hotel staff were very friendly and the rooms were small but comfortable with just the right amount of turn of the last century creepiness to make them unique. Everything was clean and in good working order. Couple of oddities I really enjoyed were the world’s biggest Czech Easter egg directly across the town square across from the hotel. Also the listing of potential charges for room damages and theft of hotel property printed on the back of the check-in sheet. Wash cloths are $5 and it continues with a whole page of items right up to rock star style rroom demolition. Maybe they have a history of rowdy cowboys and want to make the consequences clear up front. No fine print here. I thought it was very funny. Also scenes from the movie Paper Moon were filmed at the hotel and they have some great photos in the lovely front reception room. Way more fun and less expensive than a chain hotel if you are passing thru Kansas. I highly recommend this place.
