Mansion Hill Inn, Madison
Great hotel, if you don’t mind the humming
I’ll start with the good part. It’s a lovely historic building with a very welcoming staff. I was greater warmly and the room looked very nice. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. I soon discovered that there’s a bank of large air conditioner units outside, just on the other side of the wall behind the bed. This may not bother some people, but I find the incessant humming interminable. I’ve been forced to sleep on the floor to get as far from the humming as possible. I’ve been informed there are no other free rooms here, and I would have booked a different hotel, but everything is booked. So, it’s a week of sleeping on the floor for me...

pros and cons
The booking confirmation stated the charge would be $240.45. However the charge was $256.45. There was a $10 charge for parking and a $6 charge for tips. Pros for this hotel are the location, staff, robes, fabulous bathroom, cookies and snacks, water in room. We did not find the bedding to be anything special and the pillows were not comfortable. Also there were no chairs on the deck outside our room. One had to use chairs that were outside another customer's room. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast as other reviewers have alluded to. The breakfast ended at 11am and we arrived for breakfast approx. 10am. The fruit bowl was almost empty, there were a few pieces of bread on the table, there was one piece of pastry left. We asked for more fruit and we were given a nice bowl of berries and grapes. Also a nice staff member asked if we would like bagels, so he left and then returned with a bag of bagels. We also had coffee and juice, which we appreciated. The breakfast room, which is the bar had one table with four chairs. So one wonders where renters would sit if there are more than four at a time. There were four seats at the bar also. The table was dirty when we arrived and I cleaned it off myself. I think our experience was not worth the price. In the future, we will opt for a hotel near the square.

This was one of, if not the coolest place I've stayed in a long time. Staff was superb and the Inn was amazing. Highly recommend it!

Charming B&B in heart if town...
Charming B & B near the Capitol and University. Extremely accommodating service and yummie food and drinks. There is a very steep staircase, so if you have trouble with stairs, book a ground floor room. Our room was small, but perfect for one night. If staying longer then a night, I woulf book a large room, they are very cozy and large. Terrific stay, highly recommend.
