Nice enough for a reasonable one-night stay
Check in at a downstairs lobby and then the old hotel stairway was three doors down the street. Steep stairs could be difficult for some, Narrow halls with individually named rooms were a throwback to the past. Lots of hand-painted historical stories in the stairwell and halls, and in our room on all four walls. A shared bath was right across from our room, The shared baths are single units (not like in a dormitory!) and the hotel rooms have big white robes in the rooms so guests can use them to traverse the hall modestly. The hotel room had a very small corner sink which helped for things like tooth brushing. The room was very small but sufficient for the night. No tv, but we weren’t wanting one. A working railroad track was a block away and we could hear it but it didn’t wake us. (The hotel offers earplugs for guests who want them). The price was right for us. No amenities that would want me to stay longer, and I don’t know how families would manage there. The dining room or pub looked very nice and well-restored although we didn’t eat there.

A hotel stay you won't forget.
It was amazing and rich in history. I learned a lot about the history of the hotel and the town by reading the walls in the whole hotel including the bathrooms.

If you like Trains... this is your place
Older historic hotel directly next to Rail Lines in Centralia, WA. Frequent crossing guard horns 24/7 and very loud train whistles from passing freights and commuter trains. Not for everyone but as comfortable and unique as all of the other historic McMinnamins hotels. No elevator.. steep steps.. shared toilets and shared private showers. Would stay again without question. Movies.. good TV spotty Wi-fi

Lovely but very noisy...
The hotel is nice in general, but the particular room I got, #12, was just above the outdoor fire pit and it was really, really, really noisy. People were partying and talking loudly until 3:14 am. It took three calls to the front desk to resolve the situation. Needless to say they refunded me for my totally sleepless night. In addition, and I was informed of this only at check-in upon arrival, in this manner, "By the way, there are ear plugs in the night stand, the train station is behind the hotel". Yes, trains ran all night which was actually fine when compared to loud people below the window.
