The property was decent. They try to charge you 45$ anight for parking but there are lots alllll over that charge 14$ flat rate so no need to fall into that trap. I read the review ahead of time about the rooms being very simple with no amenities. Very true. Bring your own EVERYTHING. No hair dryer, iron, etc. There was dried blood on my comforter and sheets. I woke up with the stains near my face and almost freaked out. I called downstairs and they came up to change my bedding. They apologized and said they usually check the rooms... usually is not often enough obviously. I asked if breakfast was included in the room and i was told NO.. however upon checking out i heard people talking about the free breakfast downstairs. Looks like I was misinformed. I had contacted the hotel before my trip to let them.know it was my honeymoon and i was very excited. I asked if there was any way we could check in early or check out late and the gentleman said of course he would put the request in for me as well as look into upgrading ohr room. However none of that happened nor was my honeymoon even recognized. There is a bar on the roof that is 35$ for two drinks. Wtf?! I had a 30$ credit so i took a bag of gummy bears from the mini bar. Upon check out they charged me 21$ for snacks... uuummm i dont think so..and i didnt take anything else. I had to insist they use my credit for this as they tried to tell me the candy was not eligible for my discount.. jeez talk about being petty.

Amazing Hotel - 100% Stay Again
Unbelievable experience. I don't even know where to begin...I have honestly never received such amazing service from a hotel. The entire staff, from the person valet parking my car to the person checking me in were all amazing. Very friendly, upbeat and overall inviting. None of the awesome service seemed fake or put on and I can assure that I will most definitely stay at the hotel again. The location in prime! Right in the heart of downtown very close to Grand central market, perfect for breakfast in the morning. The hotel bar was also a nice addition to an already kick ass hotel. The room are super clean and very well put together. The beds are comfy, clean and I felt great staying there. I unfortunately don't remember any of the staff names but man was I happy I picked that hotel, I never write reviews or comment on anything really because of my busy work schedule but I really felt like I needed to put some time aside to comment on how awesome the service, staff working there, bedrooms and all in all big thumbs up, Hope you guys will always keep up such a great positive friendly attitude and make all your guest feel so welcome. Abhorrent service. Stay away!!!
Absolutely terrible service. I wish I had read the other reviews before booking. Housekeeping was the worst -- continued to promise that they would service our room over the course of 5+ hours while my wife and newborn had to camp out in a public space. Then the next day, took the dirty towels and left none in return. Called desk to get towels and was told that they were very busy and that it was going to take some time. Management was made aware of both issues and did not apologize nor seem terribly concerned about inconveniencing us. Also -- restaurant was not open for breakfast at 7 as it was supposed to be during the week, only for brunch much later in the day. Asked to substitute potatoes on a room service item for a green vegetable and was told the kitchen does not do any substitutions. This place needs new management with a service orientation. I stay 30-50+ hotel nights a year. Will never return to this or any other Freehand based on this 5 night stay.

Nice Hotel but Bad Customer Service
The Freehand is in a good downtown location, walking distance to great food and drinks. The room was a nice size with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was also plenty big and the water pressure from the shower was great but the shower curtain did stop at knee level so water went everywhere. Though the hotel was nice, our experience was a negative one because of bad customer service. We had drinks at the small lobby bar on our first night and had multiple issues. Please keep in mind, the bar was not crowded...5-8 small groups, mainly couples, and you had to order at the bar so the staff wasn't running around. Our first issue was the bartender's snarky response when we asked if she had a particular liquor...a simple "no" would have sufficed. Then, there was an additional $60 worth of someone else's drinks on our tab when we received our bill. We caught the error when we went to sign so we were able to get it credited right then. However, we then found a $200 charge on our card the next day. When we informed the front desk, he said the food & beverage manager would contact us that day but we never heard from them. We also informed the bar staff but they really could have cared less. Talk about great customer service! We canceled the card and finally received an email from the project accountant three days later, two days after we had checked out of the hotel. In all, our stay was $350/night...you would think, for that price, they would take better care of their guests.

Nice hotel but service could use some improvements
Beautiful hotel and really excellent restaurant. My only trouble is with the service level. First, they couldn't find the reservation we had made via Hotels.com. Once they sorted that, they placed us in a room that didn't match the res. we paid for. They rebounded by offering us an upgrade, which was nice. The room was beautiful, comfortable and perfect. Then, as a Silver VIP Hotels member, we were due $30 in beverage credit. They didn't specify or mention it to us, until we asked. Further they didn't specify it couldn't be used for room service. Fortunately, we were able to have it applied against that service after complaining. Overall, a great property, but the service level is just a beat off, especially for a hotel that falls somewhere closer to luxury than economy on the scale.
