The Stern is more restaurant than hotel
There is no dedicated reception, so regardless of the time of day, hotel guests are dependent on the availability of bar or restaurant staff for assistance. That said, the staff do try to be helpful. Because the guest rooms are located off a central stairwell that also serves the upper dining area and are above the restaurant and bar in this smallish building, cooking smells and tobacco smoke (endemic in much of Europe) do find their way into guest rooms, at least on the second floor. Similarly, outdoor tables below the room windows are a source of noise and, especially, smoke well into the evenings when the windows are open.
The restaurant is very popular and prices seem to be in line with those at neighbouring establishments. We enjoyed our meal there and service was good for a very busy evening.
Of the staff we encountered, Caroline is a true gem.
