A hidden Gem
Don't be put off by the little tunnel you walk through to get to the Riad. Once inside Nezha and the rest of the staff make you feel very welcome. I was travelling alone and the only Brit staying when I was there, but I was made very welcome. Would definitely stay here again. Ideally placed within the Medina.

A home from home
If you want a grand hotel, Dar Rahaothello may not be for you; if you want a calm home from home, it could suit you well. We stayed in Essaouira for a week to enjoy some relaxation and winter warmth. Though at the end of an unpreposessing alley, it is lovely inside, and is located at the heart of the Medina, with easy access to lots of restaurants and cafes, as well as stalls selling falafel, fish and delicious fruit. It ticks all the basics - clean sheets, comfortable bed, en-suite toilet and shower, clean towels every 2 days. There is a delightful lounge/dining area where breakfast is served, and Rashid will offer you mint tea. The staff are friendly and helpful. We took advantage of a number of services - airport transfer, an evening meal prepared by Bezha (left-overs can be kept in the fridge) and an outing to a Berber market with goat tajine in a local home - all were well organized. One tip - bring yourself a reading lamp. We would come again.

Overall we would recommend staying here
We recently enjoyed a 5 night stay at this quaint little Riad in a relatively quiet location deep within the heart of the Medina of Essaouira. The free continental breakfast was good and very generous. On some mornings we even got fried eggs. The room we had was a Comfort Double which had a little seating area. The bed was very comfortable (not too hard like many mattresses in Morocco) with extra blankets available. They even provided us with a room heater without having to ask. We stayed in February during a heavy rain and wind storm. If you want anything, all you have to do is ask. The man running the Raid while the owners were away was named Rashid. He was more than willing to help out whenever needed. It was a very relaxed feeling in the Riad. The WIFI worked excellent and we were even able to stream Netflix (Morocco) in the evening a few nights when the weather was terrible. Now for a few things to be aware of: The fireplace is not in your room. There is only one and it was never on. It is down on the main floor, in the lounge. The Free toiletries were two small bars of soap, nothing more. We never received free bottled water. And yes, it does seem possible to use the kitchen and dinning area if you ask first. This is not a luxury place to stay. But it is comfortable, friendly and in a good location within in the Medina. Our room was cleaned and made up each day with new sheets and towels. Overall we would recommend staying here.

Hidden Gem
on a winter sun break from wet and windy UK to sunny Essaouira, the riad - tucked away down a side street in the heart of the medina - is small and cosy with only six rooms, all spotlessly clean and decorated in a combination of traditional Moroccan décor with eclectic oriental artwork from the owners' travels. One of the best features is the sun terrace with 360 view of city roofscape and sound of the ocean ... has sun loungers, great for relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the souks which the good continental breakfast will set you up for. Rachid was extremely kind and helpful, every ready with a pot of mint tea. We are regular visitors to Essaouira and will certainly visit Dar Rahaothello again.
