Excellent location.
Perfect location. Excellent staff explained good options for touring and eating. Ancient building but all modern inside. Good breakfast. Only downside was comfort- no fan in the room and weak AC made it a bit hot for July.

Not Acceptable when Lisbon is Hot
Uses central AC that doesn't cool them rooms at all. Room was hot and had no fan either. Very uncomfortable two nights sleeping on top of the bedding and sweating. Itmwas also very noisy, street noise if the window was open. Some might not like the shared bath setup. Breakfast was great and the staff really tried to make the situation tolerable by getting us a portable fan. Would not stay there again unless I knew the rooms had been changed to individual AC with contr in the room. Lisbon is hot and muggy in the summer and even into early October.

An Unbeatable Guest House in Lisbon
Excellent location, excellent staff, excellent accommodations! If you've never stayed in a Guest House, definitely give this property a shot. As a "first-timer," however, you may experience a momentary adjustment period. Like most Guest Houses around the world, this is a cross between a hostel and a B&B; Largo da Sé leans more towards being a B&B, since (to my knowledge) the property doesn't offer dormitory-style arrangements (like, for example, Guest Houses in Japan typically offer). Nonetheless, bathrooms are shared and the rooms are sparsely furnished, but everything was always very clean and comfortable. The property also provides amenities such as free Wi-Fi, towels, bath gel, bar soap, and shampoo. I would suggest bringing a bathrobe and bath sandals, since you need to walk a few feet through public spaces to get to the showers. Breakfast is delicious, with an assortment of pastries, yogurt, cheese, fruit, meat, bread, juice, etc. And plenty of coffee (with 24-hour access to an espresso machine). As for the staff, I can't say enough how wonderful they are. Guest Houses are very intimate — which is the benefit of staying in one — so it is crucial for the staff to be on hand, courteous, and personable. Largo da Sé easily meets all of these expectations. Last of all, the location: perfectly situated on the edge of Alfama and within walking distance to numerous sites, restaurants, shops, and public transportation, Largo da Sé is unbeatable...
