Exceptional 10.0
A calm & close getaway from San Francisco
Simply the best place to go for solitude near San Francisco. The hostel is less than 10 miles from downtown and has plenty of hiking options available. I honestly had to remind myself that I was only a short bike or bus ride away from one of the biggest cities in the US. The facilities themselves are adequate, with plenty of table and couch space to feel at home. Would definitely go again if I needed a quiet place to stay in the SF area.

What a fantastic location! I have loved this spot since I discovered it on a bike tour several years ago.

NEW BEDS PLEASE!
Everything was great, and my stay was pleasant, as expected..... Except for the beds. I debated whether or not to leave this in a review, because I really like the place, and don’t want to hurt their business, but the condition of the beds is just unacceptable. I stayed in the 8 bed male dorm. The first bunk I was assigned to had a visible 5-7 inch dip on one end of the bed. The second bunk ended up being no better, and the top half sank, so that the middle bar pushed into my back the second I laid down. The mattresses are just plastic covered foam. I’m fine with that, because it’s a cheap convenient bed, but the beds themselves - the frames beneath the mattresses are all warped and severely sagging. The bunk beds (at least the ones in the Yellowstone dorm) are not made well enough to hold up to nightly adult use in a hostel. They could place ply board under the mattresses as a stopgap, but ultimately they need to replace the beds. That’s the only negative aspect of this hostel, in my opinion, but it’s an important one. Otherwise it’s great. Beautiful outdoor surroundings, folks from all over the world, great ambiance - just lacking a comfy place to sleep after spending a wonderful day enjoying the place.
