Fair 4.0
Room unbearably hot as the “air conditioner/fan” would only blow out at 70 degrees on an 87 degree day. Room was smelly because of this (think BO and dirty laundry) and the windows didn’t open. Hostel should also upgrade the rooms to the never version of the rooms there with the hooded beds and make the rooms with all beds on a wall. The older rooms are crappy and uncomfortable, the newer room I visited a friend in was much better.

An Amazing Journey In NYC
I enjoyed attending the New York City Poets Festival on Governors Island, NY. The subway is nearby and I was able to get around easily to the events. NYC Hostel is clean and affordable. The hostel is very near many sight and attractions in New York City. I had an amazing journey and highly recommend this hostel.

Poor 2.0
TLDR: 3 nights from hell, central air not working
When the rating of the hostel is less than 85%, it means that 15% of the guests have a horrible experience. I belong to those 15%. So what actually happened to me? The AC in the room did not work the whole time I was staying there. The AC only worked for at best a couple minutes and then stopped working. So, I was basically sleeping in a stuffed room at 82F, with no circulation. I did complain to the staff. They promised me it would get fixed during the day, only to find out that they did not. They did send a couple people to the room trying to fix it, but no one knows what they were doing. Tldr: three nights from hell, AC not working.

Poor 2.0
I am disappointed to say the least
I booked the reservation I arrived late I called to confirm and they had informed me that they just removed my reservation The day before a religious holiday and so I was stranded at this location despite revealing that I had a confirmation number over and over and over and over again the concierge behind the desk just shook his head stupidly like it was my fault. Let me be clear; I did not cancel these reservations they canceled me is it common practice for you to have to book a reservation there and called to confirm the reservation and just because I arrived around midnight they assume I no longer need the room and give it away? There are no words to describe how disappointed & unprofessional They behaved that evening I would be more understanding if they were apologetic but the way that they kept trying to deflect blame and avoid taking responsibility for their own incompetence is really what makes me sick to my stomach. I’ve stayed at this establishment over two dozen times in the past year; I’ve never had one problem I am always very quiet clean polite and respectable nor have I ever had one complete either buy stuff for my my roommates so why is the Gold member thrown out of on street because And I quote the hotel manager at the time “We just thought you weren’t going to come” Again to reiterate is the reason why I bothered to call to confirm
