Exceptional 10.0
Porter Square Hotel has been my fave place to stay whenever I am visiting Harvard. It’s just a short, pleasant walk to Harvard Square. Porter Square and the T metro station are right across the street. Our room is always immaculately clean, as it was during this stay. The beds are firm, which is what I like, with a nice layering of different thicknesses of sheet, blanket, and comforter so that I can customize for warmth and comfort. During this stay, our room (room 315) had a shower head that sprayed water at high pressure, almost too high for comfort but still tolerable. The water pressure was not adjustable, so I recommend that staff take a look at the shower head. A new amenity since my last visit, and a nice surprise, was the in-room Keurig machine and choices of Newman’s Own organic coffee, Newman’s Own decaf coffee, and green tea. The two complimentary bottles of Fiji water are good, too. What more could I ask of Porter Square Hotel? Now that I just adopted a dog, I wish the hotel would allow dogs. For a fee maybe? Please? Thanks for considering it.

Good 6.0
Hotel in Cambridge, near Boston, Massachusetts
I booked in for a week in this hotel. The first words from the receptionist was surprise that I was staying there for such a long period in their hotel. Most people only stayed a few days, apparently! Great reception! This was my first time in America, but prior to arriving in Boston, I had spent a few days in hotels in New York and then Orlando. The greeting I received in both these places was extremely welcoming and the reception staff couldn't go out of their way to offer assistance. The Porter Square reception was anything but! The few dealings I had with reception staff in the Porter Square hotel conveyed, to me, a lack of interest and empathy. It was only on departure, that any sign of emotion was displayed - the receptionist charged me $26 for parking overnight in their car park. I explained that I didn't have a car. Furtive search in the records proved this to be the case - not a word of apology but, haay, I was told I was free to go! Not a "Did you enjoy your stay" or " have a safe journey". OK, I know it sounds a bit trite but it has become customary for a few words to display an element of appreciation. But, seemingly, not at the Porter!

Good 6.0
This small boutique hotel is right in the heart of Porter Square neighborhood, across from a shopping center and a block away from the MBTA Red line, for quick access to the rest of Boston and beyond. While the front desk staff was excellent in responding to my needs, housekeeping service was inconsistent during my weeklong stay. Furthermore, guest comfort was sacrificed due to poor interior design and layout of the room (standard double bed suite which barely accommodates one person, would not recommend for two). For the price paid, I could have gotten a much larger room at a chain hotel. However, much of my time was spent exploring the Boston metro area and not in my suite, so location is the hotel’s major selling point.

Exceptional 10.0
Strategic location, Breakfast included, Nice Stay
I will definitely return to this hotel when I visit Boston. There are plenty of restaurants adjacent to the hotels - Indian, Thailand, Chinese, and of course the famous ramen Yume no Katare right in front of the hotel. Furthermore there is CVS in 2-3 mins away and a train station Porter located 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Heck, there are more restaurants along the Massachusetts Ave one will have plenty of selection to choose. The room has modern style and it looks new. The bathroom is sleek and has the shower-type but no bathtub. There are free-wifi with excellent connection offered in the room and brand-new air conditioner with no noise. the room is well-lighted and has a huge window despite of the small room. The room was small but not that small compared to Tokyo's - we were four group of moderately sized people- about 5'5 - 5'8 and the room was quite roomy for us. There are no fridge nor coffee marker in the room but one can get all-you-can-drink coffee/tea/hot water on the lobby. The hotel offers you free breakfast though I wish it could've been better - we had only muffins and cold bagels with creams on the side. The hotel would be a killer if they provide a microwave since it is surrounded by restaurants and one can bring leftovers to hotels and eat them instead! They do not offer shuttle but one can walk to the airport at the close train station Again this is a great hotel. Strategic located, surrounded by restaurants, close to train and CVS. 4.5/5 stars

Very Good 8.0
Good Option for Porter Square/Davis Square Visit.
The hotel was modern, bright, very attractive, quiet, and perfectly clean. Staff were very pleasant, including those responsible for keeping the lobby area clean. The drawbacks are related to the fact that this hotel is located where it is (Cambridge/PorterSquare), where space is at such a premium. Whoever designed this hotel did their best to make it work despite the fact that there is just not enough space for anything in this crowded and expensive area. I stayed in an "upgraded" (i.e. not the smallest) room with two twin beds. The room design worked, but just barely. There is no closet, just a hanging area with three hooks projecting from the wall. There is no folding stand for your luggage and no surface large enough to open up even an overnight bag; you must keep your bag on the floor. The bathroom was nice but very tightly laid out. When you turn on the shower, water streams directly out of the stall onto the bathroom floor. You must keep the shower door closed; if you let the water warm up a bit and then step in, you will flood the floor. Also note that you cannot park at the hotel, and they charge a whopping $28 a day to park your car for you.
